Good Day
I just purchased an IPhone and want to download Itunes to my laptop. My laptop runs the Ubuntu operating system. I have been unable to download itunes successfully and receive an error message stating file not recognizable. Is there a itunes equivalent which will work on Ubuntu and connect with my Iphone?
Thank You
The short answer is: realistically, you can't.
The longer answer is: while some folks report that they've gotten iTunes to run under Linux/Ubuntu w/ Wine, it ain't pretty, and it probably won't recognize your iPhone.
The much longer answer is: I finally broke down and got a refurbished PC w/ Windows Vista on it mainly so my 3 sons and I could manage our iPods (3 iPod Videos and a Nano). I still don't like iTunes, and rarely if ever buy any music with it (I download most of my music from amazon.com these days), but it remains the only sure way to manage your iPod and/or iPhone until Apple decides to open their specs.
Sorry to be a downer...you might just get it to work if you put a LOT of time and effort into Wine or running Windows in a virtual machine, but the easiest (and perhaps cheapest in the long run) way to go is to have a cheap Windows machine around.
