DC15 - scratching wooden floor

Only just started happening, when you turn on and start to push it's like the front end of the dyson drops too close to the floor and therefore when the brushes are spinning the drum is scraping the floor and it's leaving gauges in the wood! Please can you assist?

You should have an adjustment to remedy this...it is usually called a pile adjustment and is often found in the area above the beater bar.
Is the bar worn?  Is there something in the bar causing the scratches?

Why is my dyson26 is scratching my wooden floors when brush is turned off?

The heads are designed to be used with the brush on hard floors. On the bottom of the brush head there are either Metal or plastic pads. If you use this on a tiled or hard floor without the brushes, these can wear and become sharp in places.. This scratches the floor!!

Dyson dc15 ball turns when off but not when switched on

Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear you're concerned about your DC15. When the machine is switched on, the powerful suction causes the soleplate to seal closely with the floor surface. This may be why the machine feels a little heavier to steer when the machine is running.

I'd encourage you to give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so one of our advisors can run through some troubleshooting with you to make sure everything is correct with your machine.

We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Dyson dc15

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC15. This machine is equipped with a sensor which shuts off the brushbar if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brushbar, you should be able to reset the machine as shown in the video below.

Dyson D15 shut off while in use

Hi Mary Ellen,

I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC15. Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting. For more information on completing these checks please visit:

If you need additional assistance please contact us at 1-866-693-9766 US or 0800 298 0298 UK.

The dirt isn't making its way to the canister . . . what could be the problem? I have taken apart everything I know to take apart to check it.

Generally this is due to a clog in the hose.
Disconnect both ends of the hose, hold one end up and drop a coin into it. Raise the hose so the coin should drop out. If it doesn't there's a clog. It can usually be pushed back out with a broom stick. Push toward the powerhead end.
A blockage in the powerhead above and behind the brush will also cause this. One here can usually be pushed out using a wooden spoon handle.
Is there even suction at the power head? Drop a bit of paper on the floor and try to vacuum it up to find out.
