Error 0146 indicates a failed/failing hard drive or bad drive sector.
Basically, this means your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Hi,

this is either a faulty dvd drive error message, or you have missing system files on the hard-drive.
The computer is asking you for the ( Media-Software Disk ) that is missing, and is required to start the computer.
Try putting your restore cd, or operating system in the dvd drive when booting the computer.

You need to take it in for warranty service. The hard drive and possibly motherboard have failed.

It's flashing because it's trying to load via the hard drive.

What have you tried so far?

Safe Mode, boot cd, etc?

Error code 2000 0146

This is the error code for a failed or failing Hard Disk Drive.
Try to boot from a recovery disk and run the Drive Self Test from the utilities known as 32 bit diagnostics.
Good luck

Dell Inspiron 1525 stays black

Do you have any CD’s that came with your laptop? If so, look for one that has “Diagnostics and utilities” listed under the “Contents”. You will have to boot from that CD disk. To do this, power on your laptop and tap the <F12> key to bring you to the “One time boot menu”. Insert the CD and then select CD/DVD drive and hit <Enter> key. Select the “Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics”. Next select the “Express Test” and see if any errors are detected. If no errors are reported, then your operating system software is probably the culprit.
Hopes this helps.

Blank screen with cycling colours (no BIOS; no POST)

Try running diagnostics. Tap F12 repeatedly on the dell logo till you get the boot device menu. Choose diagnostics. Go through it.

If it doesnt even pull up the diagnostics, you can follow this walkthrough from dell's website.
