There are more than one inverter circuit for this model. One is prone to have poor solder connections in the transistors Q8 & Q10.
Another can be repaired by replacing 2 1uF electrolytic capacitors near the center edge of the board between the lamp sockets.

What is wrong with my tv

if there was a storm ,there is every possibility that there was a power surge that has fired parts of the circuit board
I suggest that you have it check at an electronic shop and get quotes for repairs.

I have a Plasma TV with black screen and 6 red light flashes.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.

Well my mom was watching tv and it just shut off so then my mom turned it back on thinking she might have hit the power button accidentally. But when she turns it on it started blinking the green light for...

The flashing light red power light should only stay while the fan cool down for about 1 minute after a power off (remember to always wait before unplugging the TV so the lamp can cool down with the fan). Does that flashing start right away after plugging back the TV after an hour of letting it without AC power.

The red light should flash no longer than 10 sec. This prepare the light to be turned on. If all is OK the green should stay (no longer flashing) and the sound and picture come on.

As for the lamp flashing, i bet it's only 1 time each 5 sec? Or do it group many rapid flash each 5 sec?

Things that can be wrong:
-the fan lamp

-the lamp is not proprely inserted (wait an hour before manipulating it to be sure it cooled down, and use glove to not put body oil on it).

-Lamps is defective and is not operating properly so you can't get to the usual on screen message that recommend to change the lamp.

Screen flashes only for a split-second (as a second display for an iMac)

The inverter is faulty. If your Monitor is powered by a mains'kettle' type lead, then it MAY be repairable, provided you can find someone to do it.If you have an external power supply, then the chances are you have a separate inverter, and it is doubtful whetther you can find the fault or a replacement circuit board....which is why we have become a throw away nation !!

Screen only stays on for 1 sec

Assuming you changed all the caps and did it correctly.
IF you get flickering, It could be a transistor on the inverter board.
OR !!! and probably more likely,
It could be one of the bulbs in the lcd itself is failing. It only takes one bad bulb to stop an inverter from firing up !! You can check them one at a time if you have another working monitor.
If you do unplug a good bulb from the good monitor and try each of the questionable ones, one at a time.
Doesn't have to be a gateway monitor to test it, just needs the same backlight plug.
