Problem just started last week with linksys router befsr41 v2. was geting 10mb connection on wifes computer and 100mb connection on mine. then i lost my connection completely. linksys tech support had me try reseting router which didnt work. then suggested reflashing firmware on router. had my computer connected to router and cable modem disconnected from router. thats only time i can access router via webpage connection from my computer. successfully reflashed firmware and then connected cable modem to router and both computers to router. the lights blink on router like it is working, but cant connect to internet or access router via webpage once the modem is plugged into router. i think the router is probably 5 years old, maybe 6.
I you restart you devices, modem and router...
first turn off the modem and then the router and last will be the computer
second if you will turn the devices on...
first turn on the modem, wait until the dsl light becomes solid
second turn on the router, wait for a minute and
third turn on the computer.
check the wireless settings for your router and save changes
next, try to check wireless connection by disabling the local area connection (LAC)
Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

The Linksys Tech Support person gave me that info on shuting down and powering up the hardware as part of their solution. However, the Cable Modem is for Internet Phone and Computer Connection to Internet... it has a battery backup built into it, so I don't know how to shut down the Cable Modem. If I unplug it from the power strip, it still keeps going (like the everready bunnie). I'll call the cable company and find out if there is a way to shut the modem down without opening it up and removing the battery and if there is a reset button on the modem also.
