Try changing surround modes. You might be in 5 channel stereo mode.

Am i supposed to be able to plug optical in to optical on my pc and get 5.1 surround sound with my pioneer vsx -515-s/-k.

That would follow. Assuming the PC's unspecified sound card (output) is set up to export the digital bitstream that the Pioneer can accept. Read some manuals.

Pioneer vsx-52tx 7.1. how do i change the 7.1 setting to 5.1? my outside speakers on zone two sound like shi...... how can i make them sound better?

UNdefine the surround back speakers and it will be 5.1.

Sound quality issues can be anything but speakers are THE main contributors to it. Insufficient information given to evaluate what the problem is.

I have a Pioneer VSX-D411 and there is dsp ng flashing, what is it

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Pioneer-VSX-D411-Receivers-manual/id/385ci976/t/2/

I believe it's trying to tell you something is wrong with its digital sound processing.

This was the best source I could find on it:
http://www.avforums.com/forums/av-amplifiers-receivers/381823-problem-pio-vsx811s-no-sound-display-says-dsp-ng.html

If you switch it to satereo / direct and the light goes out I'd say that would clinch it.

Problem for Pioneer VSX-818V-K 5.1 Channels Receiver Surround sound doesn't work, display reads 2CH IN,surround speakers are enabled, automatic test will find surrand speakers

Test with an surround sound media ie. Blu-ray or DVD)_. Disconnect the front and all other speakers that are working to see if sound from the missing speakers are heard. If this doesn't work then start by tracing and checking all the wires from the receiver to the speakers for bad/shorted/open connections.

PLEASE VOTE IF THIS WAS HELPFUL. THANKS & GOOD LUCK.

No audio output from Pioneer VSX-D608 Receiver

If it's under warranty..get a new one.
It's an internal breakdown ...tech service only.
