20 Most Recent Pioneer SX-315 Questions & Answers

With persistence, I was able to program the Universal Remote Control provided with the cable box to control my new used Pioneer SX-315 receiver. I now can control the tv volume, cable box, auxiliary stereo receiver with speaker system with one remote. Thank goodness I did not have to resort to buying a Pioneer remote control.

I was able to program another previously unused universal remote which I purchased several years ago. However, since the other remote control did not list the Vizio TV. That brand is too new for the remote.

Most of these older machine had speaker switches on the front panel. Can you check what they are set to. It may be that both switches(A and B) are set in, or set out. this could present the problem you are having with no sound. turn on just one switch that corresponds the connections you have made on the rear (use speaker A) Another thing to check, is when you first turn on the amp, do you hear a relay click shortly after you switch on. If you don't hear this delayed click, then there may well be a problem in the output stages of the amp. If this is the case, then you will need to take it to a tech to have a look and see what has failed in the amp. Check the resistance of the primary on the main power transformer, (with power off) should be 1-3 ohms. If open you need a new transformer.

If good turn it on and check for ac voltage (120v) there.

It is more likely to be an output stage problem. The unit will be shutting down as a result if a DC offset in a faulty channel. You will need to isolate the problem somewhat to diagnose what is going on. Do you have a multimeter and a decent knowledge of electronics? If so, then I can talk you throiugh some things to check. If you dont think you are up to it, I would take it to a HiFi repair guy for a look.

It may be more worth your while to buy a refurbished unit here for $132.

Very carefully prying apart at the seam however some damage is likely to occur the best tool I have found to use is plastic prying tool for auto door trim

I think I just fixed a unit with the same problem. I opened the cover and found where the wire from the headphone jack plugs into a board just beside the power supply transformer. When removed, the unit appeared to select speakers as the output. Since the headphones are never used by the owner, I simply left the headphone cable unplugged. Unfortunately, I didn't have speakers to test it with but the unit appeared to be working correctly.
