In the last two days we have experienced an F7 code on our GE Profile Oven. At this time none of the options work on the key pad. The only button that will do anything is the Start button that will stop the alarm for the F7 code. Can any offer some advice on what this problem might be and how to resolve it? I have seen some posts on cleaning some connections in the touchpad control panel, but I do not know how to get the control panel off. This advice is appreciated as well. Your help is appreciated, Mr T
The F7 problem is usually caused by a short circuit between segments of the ribbon cable connecting the touchpanel to the ERC. Open the touch panel. Insert a slip of paper (yes paper) between the two segments of ribbon cable where it exits the slot in the touchpanel. Try to work the paper down as far as possible. A piece of file card may work better. See the attached photo. If you have a metal touch panel, also add slips of paper between the ribbon cable and the edges of the slot. I have shared my solution with over 795 folks with the F7 problem. Most report success. Cleaning the contacts is a myth. It is only a short time solution as when you move the cable you are temporarily disrupting the short circuit, but it will grow back. The short is caused by what is know a dendrite. It is a growth from the silver traces on the membrane switch conductors. If you want more technical information, contact me at [email protected]. The solution should work for all ovens made by GE including Kenmore as far back as 1998. Don't be concerned about putting paper in the top of the oven. GE places a set of instructions in the top of the oven. Many folks have replaced touchpanels only to have the problem return.
I forgot to mention that by all means, turn the power off to your oven before you begin to poke your fingers in the wiring.

I cleaned the ribbon with a small paint brush and it works.. thank you.. It was really annoying listening those beeps.. it saved a lot of money... cleaning the ribbon with a paint brush it works really good...
This is an update from Powerman on my fix. Since I first posted my solution over four years ago, I have been contacted by over 4180 folks with the F7 problem. I was able to help over 90% of those folks. The others had a range, not a wall oven. My fix will not work on ranges.
I just tried Powerman's recommnedation after years of turning the oven at the breaker so I wouldn't hear the annoying beep. To might delight...IT WORKS!!!

i tried powerman's suggestion because i was getting the f7 and beeping and everything stoped working on my ge profile double oven in the wall once i insert the paper in between the ribbon i got a f0 error on both sides so we move the paper out a little and everthing is working expect coventional bake and roast and suggestion on how to get that to work?
Charles Popeck's instructions works. I did exactly as indicated on his email instuctions and picture and it works perfectly. Charles has literally saved Christmas for me and my family. He is indeed an Angel who has helped over 6,300 people with the same problem. So make sure to email him as he got back to me quickly. Amazing....I put an index card in the slot between the membrane switch and the metal housing and all the buttons worked. After 1 year of having to cut the power off at the breaker to get the lower oven to turn off it is that simple. Thanks so much for your efforts!!

Incredible...I put in a business card as per Powerman's suggestion and lo and behold no beeping, no F7. That was almost 24 hours ago. I have a 1997 GE wall oven.
Thank you powerman! The business card worked for about a year. Next time I used heavy plastic cut from doorknob packaging I recently purchased. Stiffer than a card so you can really get it in the slot without bending or ripping. Works great!
WE USED A BUSINESS CARD AND IT HAS NOT BEEPED SINCE. IT HAS BEEPED FOR 5 YEARS UNTIL WE DID THIS EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE COMPUTER PANEL 3 TIMES AT $300+ EACH TIME!!! THIS FIX IS A MIRACLE. WE HAD CLEANED THE CONTACTS MANY TIME AND THAT ONLY LASTED A VERY SHORT TIME AND IT WAS BEEPING AGAIN. TRY THE PAPER FIX! IT WORKED!!!!

I tried the paper fix, and problem still returned within three weeks.
Try cleaning the contacts of the ribbon cable on the main control pad. That fixed my F7 problem. Access: TURN OFF OVEN POWER! Find 3 screws on bottom edge of plate over control pad. When they are out the pad becomes accessible. A very helpful repairman from Crane Appliances here on Martha's Vineyard said never spray front panel to clean it - gunk can drip onto back of control pad & interfere with contacts over time.
I have a double oven, tried the card fix, but the f7 came back with heavy use. When i replaced the oven I notice that the sceen over the cooling fan on the back of the oven was 100% blocked with dust. This would explain why the fan would run for ever and why the f7 would go away after I removed the control panel. I think this was the only problem.

I have two JKP18 single convection ovens. The one used the most started showing the code F0. When the oven was started and stopped the code went away. Then it started showing code F7. At first it would go away using the above procedure. But then it stayed on until the breaker was reset. Ultimately it failed to go away at all. When I read Powerman's suggested fix of placing a paper between the ribbon cable and the panel I decided to give it a try. After opening the breaker I placed a 3 x 5 file card into the slot where the ribbon cable exits the panel. I closed the breaker and the F7 failed to reappear and the over worked normally. It has been more than one month since the repair and the oven has continued to work perfectly. It took longer to research the repair then it did to actually do the work. Just a 3/8" wrench to remove the panel and a clean 3 x 5 file card and 10 minutes of labor were all I needed. I did note on the file card the date and the reason I installed it. At my age if I ever take the panel off again and see the file card I may wonder why it was there in the first place.
I have a problem with my GE profile oven. The front panel display is blank (no lights). The oven light does work, so I know there is power. I think that there is something wrong with the control panel. Anybody know what the problem is?
At 2:30 AM the beep & F7 code started ! What to do? I pushed cancel & it went away until I used the oven few days later. Now we have the power off to it, as it is again time for bed! Help!!!
I had the same problem as F7 alarm. I took the control panel down, cleaned the ribbon connection to the touch control panel. the F7 alarm disappeared!
