we had issues with our Dyson stopping during usage, only 30 seconds into vacuuming. Release the trigger, then pull the trigger, it would start up, then stop. Dyson rep had us clean the contacts on the battery, i then removed the filter and used fine sandpaper to clean the contacts on the on both sides of the unit. Turned it on and it ran like brand new. it is only 2 months old.

Dyson Ball Cleaner Head suction stops when head is attached; Multi Floor 2; UP19

If the suction on your Dyson Ball Cleaner Head stops when the head is attached, it could be due to a problem with the head itself or with the vacuum's hose and wand. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
  1. Check the hose and wand for any blockages or kinks. Remove any blockages or straighten out any kinks to restore suction.
  2. Check the hose and wand for any visible damage, such as holes or cracks. If the hose or wand is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
  3. Check the connection points between the hose, wand, and cleaner head to make sure they are secure and not loose.
  4. Check the filters to make sure they are clean and not clogged. If the filters are dirty or clogged, they can reduce suction.
  5. If the problem persists after trying these troubleshooting steps, you may need to take the vacuum to a repair center for further diagnosis and repair.
I hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Animal ball great on tiles but carnt push it on a thick carpet turn it off and it's fine but turned on no chance ,, get cheep vac out that's fine ,, head by the way not blocked all free

Yes that's a nappy carpet verses long brushes, plus awesome suction. If you have a trigger to relieve suction a bit you will just have to nurse it. One direction of nap is always easier than the other. Eventually your Dyson will suck yourcarpet up, making it thinner, and the engine will tire and those long brushes will wear down and it will be just right

We had an older dyson vacuum that worked great until it had to be replaced and now our new one it works great on short carpet but is very difficult to push on thicker carpet.

Hi Ronnie, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your new Dyson vacuum on this particular type of deeper-pile carpet. It's possible your new machine has higher suction at the cleaner head, and this could mean it needs slightly higher push-force on certain carpets with deeper, denser pile, or thick underlay. You may find it helps to use the vacuum with the brush bar switched - carpet manufacturers will sometimes advise vacuuming deep-pile carpets in this way.

However, I would encourage you to get in touch with us directly so we can take some further details about the issue. When you have your Dyson vacuum easily to hand, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). Our experts will be happy to discuss your concerns.

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Machine shut off when suction release button was accidentally pushed. Now it won't come back on! What should I do?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you've described sounds very unusual. DC23 has a suction relief trigger underneath the hand grip of the wand handle, but this isn't connected to the vacuum's electrical components and shouldn't cause the vacuum to cut out in use.

However like most Dyson vacuums, DC23 is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat. This may occur if the machine is used when blocked, or if the filter is overdue for a wash. It should reset automatically after it's had around 2 hours to cool down, but to prevent it from happening again please follow the steps shown in our online support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/check-telescopic-wand-step-1-turbine-head

In normal use, we recommend washing the lifetime pre-filter at least once every 3 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue, but if you'd like further help or advice after giving this a try, please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

DC17 suction motor stopped

It could be that your cyclone needs to be replaced. Depending on how the unit was cleaned (the cyclone in particular). Some people who service these machines wash the cyclone with out completely dismantling it, they just fill it with water and shake stuff out of it. This can cause debris inside the cyclone to become lodged causing clogs. If after checking for clogs and if your changeover valve is working (the piece that moves back and forth on the side of the machine when you pull the handle back to vacuum carpets) and the machine is in the upright posistion and the hose doesn't work, then you probably have a cyclone problem.

Dyson dc17

If the brush roll is worn out or not working properly it will not pick up even light debris like hair and lint even if you have great suction. Check the brush roll first.

Not working

If only 2 months old, take it for repair as it is under warranty.

Suction

Might be the hepa filter needs cleaning? This is located in the housing on the side of the cleaner at the bottom (see your manual to find it). It is a big spongy ring which Dyson say you should remove once a month and wash in warm water. Dry off and replace in cleaner when completely dry. I've found this works and the suction is like that of a new machine!
