It's not a problem if you're not using a wide-angle lens. And if you are, you can always diffuse the flash by putting a thin white handkerchief or even a sheet of tissue paper over the flash.
You can use any flash that has one contact at the shoe. Try using the PC flash cord to the flash socket on the camera body and see if the flash fires. If you see flash with pc flash cord and not with the accessory shoe, try cleaning the flash contacts at the hot shoe. If no flash either using the hot shoe or the flash cord, try testing the flash. If the flash is good, you have to open up the camera to trouble shoot. The flash wire is connected to the shutter's flash contacts.
Konica lenses do not fit Minolta cameras. I think you messed something up.
Minolta MC and MD lenses worked on the older manual focus Minolta bodies. They will also work on the Phoenix and Seagull clones of the old Minolta bodies.
The Konica lens should only ever be mounted on a Konica camera.

You could also look on Ebay for another Maxxum body to use your lenses designed for the Minolta A mount. As a rule, camera lenses are not interchangeable. You can use any Maxxum lens on any Maxxum body as a rule, but Minolta changed their flash shoe after the original 7000 series. Flashes that work with your 7000i will work with any subsequent Maxxum.
Of course not. The electronics inside the flash and the mounting shoe have been specifically designed for the Minolta contacts and required voltages. Actually, you're lucky if you have not damaged the flash by doing that. Get a flash with a generic one contact shoe for your cactus.

IF IT IS, ARE YOU SURE THAT THE FLASH IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE HOT SHOE? NEXT, IS THIS FLASH COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA? YOU SEE, SOMEHOW THE CAMERA IS NOT GETTING THE INFO THAT THE FLASH IS CONNECTED. I WOULD CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON.
