Using old CD's with Vista

Consider that perhaps that program is not compatible with your current computer/OS/video card, etc.
Happens.

Here are the instruction for installing the QX3 (or QX3+) Microscope with Vista. You must be using a 32-BIT VERSION. The QX3 is not compatible with 64-bit versions of Vista.

Note, DO NOT use the software from the CD that came with the microscope.
DO NOT plug in the QX3 microscope until Step 4.

Before you run the programs below, right click the icon, click on "Properties", click the "Compatibility" tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then choose in the drop-down box "Windows 98 / Windows ME". You should also check "Run as Administrator" if your account is a "Standard user".

Step 1. Download and install the QX3PLUS.EXE software from Intel:

Step 2. Download and install the QCODINSTL.EXE software from:

Step 3. Download and extract the QX3 Drivers from:

Step 4. Now, plug in the microscope.
When the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears you will see a message saying that the driver installation was not successful. Click the Close box. You need to install the driver manually by following these steps:
a. Click START - Select Devices & Printers
b. Right-click on the Intel QX3 Icon and select Properties
c. Click the Hardware tab - click Properties
d. Click Update Driver - select "Browse my computer for driver software"
e. Browse to the folder with the extracted QX3 drivers from Step 3. above. The driver software should install successfully.

Double-click on the QX3+ icon on the desktop and the program should run.

You can download the driver from the manufacturer's website by clicking this link
On the page which opens, select the operating system (Windows Vista / Windows Vista x64,etc..) of your computer to download the appropriate drivers and software.

Windows XP and Vista should "auto-detect" the capabilities of this LCD screen.

If not, access http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
and scan for updates.
When the scan is done, look for "optional hardware" updates.
If Microsoft has a driver, it will be offered for download.

Vista requires a plug-n-play software, that can be downloaded from HP's website. Go to HP.com, support, enter model number and choose operating system (Vista). The page will allow you to download, free, the plug and play software.

* Note: Vista sometimes allows you to just plug the printer in and it automatically installs the plug n play (without software). You can try this also.

My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it.
Fast Forward:
Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium
LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available.
I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.

It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.

If it does not say Vista then most probably wont work. Most old apps and drivers will not work with Vista.

i may be stateting the obvious but hope to help you vista often has gaurds that bar you from dowloading things from the internet i have not had much chance to play with vista but by turning these off it may help you download the software also note that you may have to restart your system before the drivers will take effect

I would suggest that you download the one for Vista then install that. Dont go by way of XP driver then update.

Vista asks to use cd - then it is installed
