SOURCE: webcam is not working with yahoo messenger

See section B. Yahoo in info below.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Yahoo messenger 8 webcam not working

YAHOO MESSSENGER SET UP AND TIPS

Plug in your webcam and visit this site - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.
Do not proceed if the camera fails to work here, but concentrate on your webcam software / drivers

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger 10.

COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER

You MUST use Internet Explorer to visit this page, with your webcam plugged in, to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control. Make sure your webcam broadcasts on this page before moving on

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/webcam/mstacamtest.html

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the Yahoo software may have difficulty in locating it. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, if yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

AUDIO
Open Video and Voice - run through your default equipment and make a test call - click OK

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your default equipment selections and who you will allow to view you > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear under the message window when you type a message

The problem i'm having is that that web cam wont opperate on messenger, it works fine normaly, it used to work fine, but it just wont acknowledge me anymore

Hello Friend, At the starting to set-up a webcam first, make sure your webcam driver is installed. Then plug-in your webcam and sign in to Yahoo! Messenger. If your webcam is not showing or shows a black screen instead, you need to check the "Camera Source" settings in Yahoo! Messenger. You have to follow the steps describing below:
  1. You have to click on the "Messenger" menu then in Messenger select the "My Webcam" menu.
  2. click on the "File" menu in the "My Webcam" window and then click on the "Preferences" menu.
  3. Just click on the "Camera Source" button.
  4. Select your webcam device from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click the "OK" button to close Preferences window of Yahoo! Messenger.

After following all the steps if you still face the problem you have to check the connection settings. You can do that with following the steps below:
  • click on the "Messenger" menu in the main Yahoo! Messenger Window.
  • select the "Preferences" menu.
  • select "Connection" under "Category".
  • You have to ensure one of the following is selected for connectivity "No Proxies", "No network detection".
  • Just click on the "Apply" button then click "OK".

My dell inspiron 1525 webcam wont work with yahoo messenger

This is happening because the Dell webcam central is accessing the webcam at the same time as yahoo messenger. Click on start and click on Run(XP), Type MSCONFIG in start search (Vista) and you'll get the system configuration utility. Open it and go to the startup tab. Uncheck anything related to Dell webcam. Click on Apply and OK and restart the computer. If yahoo messenger shows a black screen uninstall Yahoo messenger and reinstall with the more recent version.
