Vertical lines Hi all!!!
I am getting colored vertical lines on the LCD and viewfinder. I can just recognise an image behind these lines. It obviously isn't the LCD because the menus show up perfect. It just won't recieve the CCD image correctly on the screen or viewfinder.

Does the menu function display the same lines? What kind of cables are using ? (HDMI, Component vid, S-video, co-ax)
Were you as tenacious checking all cables/connections as you were the electronics? Lets rule out this all too often over-looked possibility.
Do you still get the lines with nothing connected to the TV? (no source connected)
CCD Imager in your camera is probably defective and needs to be replaced. If the unit is still under warranty, i advised to have sony fixed the issue for you.

With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.
Hi, Symptom shows bad CCDIMAGER in camera and requires replacement. (IC951 on CD-465 board, mounted at end of lens mechanism). Nice to know that you are tech person so buy CCDIMAGER from any part store under following part number..

Its a fault with many of the canons,
they have NOT recognised it,
but you can get it fixed free by a third party company
(cant remember off hand which one soz)
Funny how they do it for free,
as if canon are paying them so they dont have to own up !!!
Hi, Your camera DCR-HC20 has problem with ccd imager and this part will be replaced. After that camera will show live view to record. Sony announced free of cost repair scheme for such problem. You will pay shipping charges only $15 Click Sony Support for details.
Hi there. Contact sony service centre directly and ask them about replacing the ccd. I have a vx2100 which did exactly the same thing. Sony admits that there was a problem with the ccd's used in these cameras and replaced them for free, maybe the same for your camera. good luck
