How do I set the timer on my MV600 camcorder

If you've not got the instructions there have a go in Menu and look for Timer sub-menu and see if you can figure it out.
Otherwise, go to Canon's website, click on Customer Support or Technical Support or however they word it, look for Downloading Manuals or similar heading.
Click on that, enter the model and serial numbers and whatever else is asked for and you'll soon have the instructions to download.

Hi, I am trying to import

Hi in order to get footage off your camera through Firewire i.e DV you will have to use a software to capture the footage. You can use iMovie to capture the footage off the camera.
Open Apple System Profiler (it's in the Utilities folder) and check to see if your camera appears in the FireWire section.

If your camera is connected via FireWire and is turned on, follow one or more of these tips to re-establish the connection to the camera.
  • Turn the camera off and back on again.
  • Disconnect the FireWire cable from your computer and reconnect it. Do the same at the camera as well. If the camera is connected through a FireWire hub, try connecting the camera directly to the computer.
  • Some cameras need to be set to "VTR", "VCR", or "DV" mode in order to communicate with a computer. Check your camera's documentation for information on how to set your camera to this mode if needed
Hope this helps.

Hi, there's a red icon/symbol flashing

The flashing icon says there is no tape in the camera. If that's incorrect then there is a problem in the cameras tape detection circuitry and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

The screen is blank when recording and play back

The best you can do is to use a good cleaner for the head, If doing it physically make sure that the head tips are not broken by hard cleaning but only a soft touch with a good flat pad. USe of paper is also good to slighly keep it over the head and rub along the tips. You must understand that the tips are on the bottom of the head cylinder, a small **** opening where a tiny ferrite is seen. So be very careful. If there is no result after the cleaning I am afraid that you will need to open the camcorder to probe for the fault in the video processing/ head unit assembly. This may require good experrience and would not be recommended . Hope our cleaning works. You can also put the set on for several hours for some days if the unit was not used for several days. It might help to buld up any loss of value in the electronics due to storage.Good day

Camcorder importing - no manual

This is the same unit I have. Simply connect a 4-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable between the computer and the camera. (Port is under the lens, under a smal rubber cap. Once the connection is made, turn on the camera, and it should appear on your mac as a new fixed drive. Import your files normally from there.

Hope this helps!

Lost disk

No, you need the software to transfer your movies.

If you do not have the software, you need to download the software from one of the following locations:

Official Canon Drivers and Software

Canon USA:DRIVER & DOWNLOADS

After downloading is finished, unplug the USB and run the software that you downloaded.
The software installer will tell you when to connect USB.
