Hotpoint F-01 Error code

Hi Folks,

I have a Hotpoint washing machine model WT761P.
Over last couple of weeks my wife has said that the washer has not finished its cycle until she manually selected rinse and spin. Today it completed its cycle automatically but the door remained locked. After turning off at the plug it allowed her to open the door. When I turned it back on it gives error code F-01. At this point I cannot use the off button and have to unplug at the wall to remove the power. According to various sources this appears to suggest an issue with the motor or control unit. If I unplug the motor the fault code remains. I have removed the control unit and inspected the circuit board but can see no evidence of burning. I still suspect it is the control unit but have 2 questions:
Is there any way I can confirm if the unit is faulty before I waste money buying one.
Where can I get a new unit from as none of the parts sites seem to list them. The info on the board is that it is a Selectron with code no: 215009163.01.
Any help gratefully received before I have to go and buy another as I can't see that the cost of an engineer call out, labour and part(s) being any cheaper.
This washer is only 2 years old. What happened to the good old washers that ran for ever? My Dads is over 20 years old!
