No wireless updated from win vista to win 7 and lost all factory programs for pc

This was originally made for win 98/ME. an update for XP was made.
No driver for win 7 or 8.

Did the wireless card ever work? If it did work I would check to see if there's a physical switch on the laptop. Try switching it off then on. I would also try a different driver. Sometimes I've used an older or newer driver to get a wireless card to work. So if the driver that's installed is for Vista I would try obtaining one for Win 7. You could also try a wireless driver fro XP 64bit. I've found that some Manufacture's Web sites have several drivers listed for "network card" you could have a installed a "network card driver from HP's site but it might not be the correct version or manufacturer. One other item to check. If you had Vista 32bit installed originally then went to Win 7 64bit you could try the Vista 64bit driver.

If all else fails you could purchase a USB wireless device to make your laptop wireless again. I picked up a Trendent

If you tried to install Vista on the Primary drive and formatted the primary HDD your Factory Recovery Partition , most likely has been written over, it's gone. Choose one or the other , Vista or Win 7, start from the beginning, install a clean Vista load, formatting in the installation procedure, form a Vista Installation DVD, follow instructions, boot up, do ALL the Vista Updates, it will take hours of updates, rebooting, updates, rebooting. You will get to the Service Pack's 1 and 2, in 24 hours or so. Put on a pot of coffee and be patience. If you prefer Windows 7 use the same procedure.

Did you do ALL your windows update before the Service Pack? That SP has been out for years? Doesn't your laptop have Windows Updates set to Auto? Choose one or the other, Vista or Win 7 and do a Full Install.

If the factory disks are on the pc in a partition then f11 may work at boot. some manufactures use a different f-key you might try a few.
if there is no factory partition for you to restore your pc on the hard drive then you will need the restore disks supplied by manufacturer. Or just the xp, vista or win 7 disk with serial # will do.(depend on what system was installed) It will be factory fresh with no data or files when you are done. every thing will be gone just like u had just bought it. repeat everything will be lost..
Make sure you can have an Ethernet cord plugged into it for updates to correct diver issues and obtain the newest updates to keep it virus free
try Google with your pc model # and factory reset in the search field there is alot of info available in a Google search.

you need the OEM disk from ibm to put vista back on.

best thing to do is keep 7 in the laptop, but you need internet access on the laptop get a usb wire/wireless card for the laptop and let windows update find the drivers and fix it.

If you bought a full retail version and not an upgrade, you may need to do a fresh installation of windows. You also need to make certain that your gateway model is able to upgrade to windows 7. Checking your computer's support page, there are no BIOS updates available. Your computer should be fully capable of upgrading to windows 7 from windows Vista. ALso looking at Gateway's support page for this model, there are no drivers offered for Windows 7. All drivers offered are for windows Vista. I have seen computers in the past that will not tolerate an operating system change from the system that was installed at the factory.

If you have a restore partition, you can back up your data, and do a clean install of windows after formatting your hard drive. You may also want to make recovery disks for your computer in case the Win 7 will take on your computer or you cannot get your hardware to work with Win 7 since Gateway offers no Win 7 drivers.
Good luck. Take precautions to back up data and be able to revert to your original factory settings if necessary.

If you upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista or XP, you will need to install the wireless card driver from HP for Win-7.

At present, HP does not have Win-7 drivers for this machine.
