The touchpad light in front of the mouse on my compaq laptop is lit permanently, and its switch button does not respond. This is perhaps why my touchpad stopped working. I have tried reformating without getting it work. What is the solution.

SOURCE: my touchpad on my compaq laptop wont work how do i

You probably need to re-install the driver for the touchpad. Go to the Compaq support site and download the driver for your computer.

The pad is something like an ALPS, but you can search for drivers based on your exact model.

SOURCE: Automatic scroll does not work on touchpad unless you hold down the left click button

This can be set to scroll for you as it is a simple setting in the mouse control panel.

Go to your start menu and open Control panel, select classic view in the top left corner if there are less than 20 icons(pictures) in the menu. Now double click on the mouse icon. Click on the advanced tab. then select your synaptec device in the list and click the properties button below.

There are several options on the menu, one will say "Virtual Scrolling"
Check the box beside Vertical Scrollong and then click OK on this window and the mouse window.

Close the control panel and you're on your way.

I hope this helps Fixya,

Chris

SOURCE: Entire Keyboard and Touchpad don't work! Compaq Presario CQ60

Fantastic, thank you for posting above that removing the battery sorted the problem. I had exactly the same problem as you with being able to sign in with my password but neither the keyboard or touch pad worked past this point. It's weird that the keyboard worked for signing in with the password but then didn't work anywhere else. Wonder what causes the problem coz I can't think of a logical explanation. Anyway I didn't have to hold the on/off button down for 2 mins. Just removing the battery and then replacing it cured it. I can't thank you enough for helping me to solve this.

many touch pads have a switch that you can toggle on and off to turn the touchpad on and off. It is usually in the immediate area of the touch pad.

HP Compaq Presario CQ60-249US PC Notebook, my trackpad and mouse buttons have stopped responding. I am trying to check the cable connections and possible install a new one. Anyone tell me how to remove...

To access the mouse cable remove the battery - remove the screws securing the keyboard - carefully lift the keyboard out and check the security of the cable BUT in your instance look at the small on / off button in front of the mouse pad and ensure it is turned on ( blue light ) for on yellow off -- if it is blue go to Started - all programs - recovery manager - activate recovery manager - select advanced options - select reinstall a selected driver - select the touch pad driver - reinstall - reboot if that fails go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3872064#N1238 & download & install the latest touch pad driver. Emachines e725 Touchpad Not Working

The eMachines E725 has a built in switch to toggle the touchpad on or off by the touch of a button. Look at the button to the left of the main power switch. You'll notice the icon looks like a hand touching a rectangle - or touchpad. if this button is lit up, the touchpad is turned off. simply press the button to toggle the touchpad back on. The light on the button should now be off.
It's that simple.

HP Compaq nc 6120 - it is stuck - curser is halt not responding anything. When pressing a little hard or lifting laptop above from one corner it starts working.

sounds like you have something stuck on your touchpad controller.

You could plug in an external mouse and try to shut off your touchpad while putting pressure on the case long enough to get to mouse file in your control panel folder.

You will probably have to take the cover off and look for stuck switches or maybe something spilled on the touchpad itself that is gumming things up.

good luck and be careful.

Touch pad doesn't work AT ALL!!!!

Hello there, Kasie!

Hopefully I can help. On laptops, there will *usually* be a "function button" one can press to disable the touchpad in the even that one wishes to use an actual mouse instead of the touchpad. -- This would be in the interest of not accidentally triggering clicks, or mouse movement when typing, etc.

Without knowing the make and model of your laptop, I can't tell you the precise button to press to re-activate your touchpad. On most laptops, you'll need to hold down the "Fn" key (usually at the bottom left or right of the keyboard) and then find the function key (top row of keys... F1, F2, F3, F4 and so-forth)... Look at your function key row. See if there is perhaps a key with a little "drawing on it" that looks like a touchpad.. like a horizontal rectangle with 2 smaller squares under the rectangle, representing the rectangular shape of the touchpad and the two "mouse buttons" beneath it... if you find something like this, it will likely be the one you'll need to press.

However, on some laptops, the button will be just above your touchpad... you'll be able to press it, and some sort of indicator light will either light up in red to let you know it's been deactivated, or white / green to let you know that it's currently activated.

One of my laptops which is an HP has the button at the top left corner of my touchpad.. I have to "double-tap" it to deactivate / reactivate the touchpad; while my Toshiba laptop has a button directly above the touchpad which I only have to press once. -- Both laptops have an indicator light as well. The HP's "double-tap button" will turn red / dark orange to let me know that I've deactivated it... With the Toshiba laptop, there is a light just below the touchpad area which is always lit up as a "bright white light bar" when active and simply not lit up when deactivated.

I wish you the best of luck with this, and hope I've helped you!

"sticky" mouse on compaq laptop

Unless your left mouse button has been severely damaged, it is unlikely that a loose button is the cause of your problem. More likely, it is your touchpad. Chances are your touchpad is set to click when tapped. Oversensitive touchpads can click randomly when you're dragging your finger across the touchpad.

To test this, position your cursor over a link (or other button) but don't press the left mouse button. Instead, lightly tap the touchpad itself. If the link or button is clicked, go to your Control Panel and adjust the Mouse options so your touchpad no longer clicks when tapped. It's usually a setting titled "tap to click" or something along those lines.

Javabytes
