Is this machine mechanically sound, remove the muffler and take a look at the piston through the open exhaust port, any signs of scuffinf or damage to the piston skirt and the saw will have to come apart for further investigation.
The cylinder looks good but did not look at the piston. Don't know why I overlooked that. Do you know if this saw has reeds? I'm thinking it started to seze. This is my first husky tare down. Whats the deal with the 2 intakes? One looks like just an air intake and the other has the carb attached. the air one has a butterfly attached to the throttle. Don't have it apart far enough to see in the carb. Thanks
The saw does not have a reed block, the two additional ports are air ports for the X torque, basically on a standard two stroke engine an amount of unburnt charge escapes through the exhaust port whilst pushing out the exhaust charge, on an X torque engine you take fresh air in through the two air ports, this is fed around the sides of the piston via cut a ways, and fed down the top of the transfere ports ( they are much longer than a standard engine ) now when the fresh charge is compressed in the crankcase, and forced up the transfere port all that initially comes out is the fresh air that was fed in through the top, this means no fresh charge is allowed out through the exhaust port so lower emmisions, and more oxegen is in the clylinder so there is a bigger bag creating more power/torque, it is a very simple design which works really well, the only negative side is the inlet side of the piston runs very cool so there can be issues with ring gumming.
Thanks alot that answered all my questions. I guess it is coming apart to check the rings. I have worked on alot of other saws but this is my first time with a xtorque.
