A good standard 90 wt oil is what is ok for the gearcase. This is an old email from a hobart service tech and they recomend a special oil ordered from them. So you can decide which you want to use. "EXXON SPARTAN EP-150 (6 oz)" in the M802 planetary. Hobart part #102973-13. This IS NOT a food grade oil. If you mixer is leaking you shouldhave it serviced. Service, parts , lubricants and information canbe obtained by contacting your local Hobartoffice in Pittsburgh@ (412) 788-5380. Steve Davis Field Engineer -

SOURCE: old hobart s-30 mixer oil

Hobart 30qt mixers have no sight glass also they use grease not oil!
The problem is the grease breaks down after heavy use thats why Hobart wants you to service yearly.

SOURCE: oil leaking from hobart d300 mixer

DEFINITELY contact the manufacturer (Hobart) on that one. Sounds like you're having some sort of an internal problem with it (something might be cracked), and in this situation, the best way to go is to contact the manufacturer rather than try to repair it yourself. If you're still under warranty, and you try to open the machine up to fix it yourself, you could wind up VOIDING the warranty, and if you're out of warranty, most repair places won't touch a machine that you've messed with already--too much of a liability.

Just give Hobart a call, and they should be able to help you (if you're in warranty, sometimes even for free!). Their phone number (according to their website, www.hobartcorp.com ) is 1-888-4HOBART (1-888-446-2278)

Good luck! :)

I have a Hobart P660 stand mixer. It turns on for a moment then trips the breaker. Would this be a "relay" or "switch" problem?

Hello Pizzaangel,

It sounds like you are having a problem with you Hobart P660, everytime you run it trips the breaker. Sounds like the switch is shorting out. You need to replace the switch and that should solve the problem that you are having.
