The light shines yellow on the screen. Is it the lamp that's on its way out, or is it just a setting?

If the yellow area is mainly in the centre and not a well defined spot, then it's most likely the blue polariser plate that has been overheated by the white light over much use.

What is an optical block

LCD and PLASMA sets do not use them---LCD rear projection sets that have a lamp for the light source use them: light from lamp shines into the engine and picture with color emerges from lens at top of optical engine, it shines into a mirror which projects it on the front screen---Display is LCD but with a mirror it is also rear projection.

Panasonic DLP TV has huge yellow blotch covering most of the screen

SET uses a optical light engine--lamp which is quite hot shines into the engine---blue is first to get the light and heat and is usually first area in the lens and baffles to get damaged(loss of blue leaves red and green which equal a yellow screen.

You have a damaged light engine.

I have a mitsubishi wd 62530 08' model had blue showing through left side of tv working towords the middle, screen looks greenish yellow what is the problem

This is a known issue with these sets.

They use an OPTICAL LIGHT ENGINE which the lamp shines directly into: the blue section (it has blue, red and green sections with lens and baffles) is the first to get hit by the light and its heat.

Commonly it burns that area (blue) first.

This is permanent damage and either the display chip has to be replaced (over 200 part and not a do it yourself replacement) or the entire engine has to be replaced.

Sony and similar brands have the same problem--Sony is fixing a lot of them even if out of warranty for free (class action lawsuit!).

This is a 98% certainty in your case.

You may want to contact Mitsubishi to see what if anything they will do.

You might not get a straight answer from them so GOOGLE the model number and research this on the internet-------

My tv screen when on turns yellow then after a while it will switch back to normal colors what can be wrong with it....

Televisions covered: all Projection with yellow picture, but not Projection TVs with a yellowish tint surrounding objects in a nearly normal picture.

Yellow = red + green
normal picture = red + blue + green (RGB). See illustration.

12_27_2011_5_00_56_am.png

Fig. 1 Additive color mixing in an RGB monitor, or RGB Projection TV.

The circuitry powering your blue output, or the blue light engine itself is starting to fail.

Operating Theory:

The lamp module shines a bright light into the optical unit; there are a series of lens and baffles, and at the top of the light engine, a lens puts the picture into a mirror which is reflected onto the screen; All video and color is processed thru the light engine. Blue most commonly fails first, leaving a yellow picture.

Installed new lamp. When powered up blue solid light and yellow blinking light (15x) , tv would torn off and on several times trying to light lamp. Once that failed red blinking light and yellow solid...

Hi Genaro,

Blue led light lit solid and yellow led light flashes is an initial attempt of the set to re-light the lamp.Red led flashes and yellow led light solid means that the lamp won't light up that's why it only has sound without the picture.
Since you've replaced the lamp twice and still the symptoms persist, I suspected that the fault came from the ballast board and not on the lamp itself. If the ballast board gone to malfunction, there's no high voltage will produce to light up the lamp and will sensed by the processor and trigger the error code (Flashes/solid led light with color code).

To verify whether the ballast board is faulty or not, check if the lamp will lit by looking through the lamp door louvers at the rear of the cabinet upon turning on the set.
Please let me know what you will find to assist you further.

I have a sony KDS-R60XBR1. The lamp burned out so I ordered a new one. When I took the old one out, I noticed the area directly in front of the lamp, the first thing the lamp shines into, is a little dirty...

Use a eyeglass cloth or LCD screen cloth. Use NO solvants on it. Just dry cloth. ALSO goto the settings menu and put the tv in HIGH altitude mode. There tv's get too hot and the light engines go out. Green or blue tint. or dots. It also helps the lamp last longer.

On my Hitachi Ultravision I have a large yellow sunglow in the middle of the screen which is becoming more yellow each day. I have replaced the lamp but the issue continues to worsen. Can anyone offer any...

98% CHANCE what you have is a bad optical light engine.

Sets which use a lamp for the light source have a optical light engine, it is L shaped and the lamp shines into it-----heat from the lamp can cause separation of the lens/prisms inside the light engine.

Not good news as the engine is the most expensive part in the set--if you have an extended warranty--DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW--if no warranty you will likely be better (and cheaper) to replace the set than repair it.

Sorry to give you bad news but this is what you have.

Color problem. Yellow in upper part of the screen and several places in the middle section of the screen

This is a model that is part of several class action lawsuits.

Any noticeable discoloration on the screen means a damaged optical light engine.

At one point Hitachi was selling replacements for about 200---now they are over 600 exchange.

The light from the lamp shines into the optical engine which puts the picture into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

Considering the cost of the part not to mention major labor to replace it I suggest you GOOGLE the model number and get involved in one of the many class action lawsuits.

HITACHI knows about this problem but is doing nothing. The more hours the set is used the sooner the problem begins---every one of these sets develops a "burnt" light engine--a result of heat from the lamp that distorts the baffles and lens in the light engine.

55 inch hitachi lcd projection tv has yellow and purple blur near the center of the screen

This, sadly is getting to be a very common problem with all Projection LCD TV's
Colored Blotches on an LCD Projection TV are usually caused by defects or marks on filters or lenses on one of the LCD panels themselves which are all located in the light engine (or optical block) First confirm that the lamp or main lens is not discolored by removing the lamp (unplug set and let cool before removing!) and visually inspecting the lamp itself and the lens that it shines onto. The light engine is an expensive part ($600-$1200) to replace and requires major disassembly. Have a tech confirm-Get an estimate -Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Yellow Spot dead center on screen

Any color spot is never the lamp with this type of set.
the yellow spot is caused by the optic block (Engine). Very expensive to buy.
Little over $1000 plus labour with a qualified technician.
Sometimes technician may try to clean or repair inside but most likely won't succed.
good luck.
