Welcome to Fixya
You can recover data from your harddrive but depends on the extent of the damage of the harddrive. If it is just a corrupted file system and its nothing booting up then all you need to do is to take out the hardrive and put it in a usb enclosure then plug it to the new computer then start copying your files. Here's an
article on how to recover data on your harddrive.

Maxtor hard drive. macbook
Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

Is this hard disk brand new? If yes, you have to format it before using it. If the hard disk is not new and has alredy data on it, there might be another problem since the format procedure will destroy all these data. If the hard disk is an external one (connected with USB, Firewire e.t.c.) it is already formated so the problem is elsewhere. Please clarify me the details in order to help you.
Waiting clarification, don't hesitate to post.

I've got a virus and
the best way to solve that problem is to change your password to both accounts. If you do that the problem should be solved.
I hope this solution has been helpful.
I Have a maxtor Grahpics
Thats because this is a VERY old card, from what i can see,it has 4mb video ram. Modern cards start with about 256mb to 512mb up to a max of about 2GB.
This appears to be a PCI card, you wont find a replacement worth buying.
IF you have an AGP slot you may be able to buy a card from about £20.
To enable full screen playback, you need a modern system, with plenty of ram.
I have a maxtor H.D.
Typically, for older MAXTOR drives, put the jumper on the 2 pins closest to where the ribbon-cable connects, to set it to 'MASTER'.
Remove all the jumpers to set it to 'SLAVE'.
Maxtor 4D040H2 HARD DRIVE HDD IS CLICKING
Hard drives do make some sounds when they run.
If the drive is in warranty, take it back to the store.
If it isn't, there is NOTHING that you can do without a clean room. Use it 'till it breaks.
COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE 3200,
Hello
Ok, here is a couple of thing we can try to resolve your problem.
Firstly, power down the computer, unplug all the wires from the
external, plug all back in, and start the computer with the drive
attached. This usually solve this problem.
The other thing is, if you
turn on the external can you hear the drive spinning up? If not, i will
suggestthat you try a new ac adapter...This will almost always solve
this problem. The thing is, It's not supplying enough power to do
anything but turn that silly little green/blue light on, thus, windows
cannot recognise the drive, or, the drive won't start spinning.
Please
do nt hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Try
the above steps, and let me know what happens.
I already posted this in your previous question.
Kind Regards
Andrea

My guess is that something "bad" happened (electrical surge???) when you first disconnected it.
Your only option is to assume that the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the casing has failed. So, open the case, remove the disk-drive, and connect the disk-drive to another computer, and see if the drive itself is still "readable". If so, copy all the files, onto the other computer, or burn some DVD disks.
