there is a switch for that will be made a neutral position and a working position if you work with the brush for carpet cleaning.
If its stands left down (white N) its neutral and if right step on it it comes in working (Green D ) in down position . example of an G4
It sounds Kirby has a new model with a new type of switch go back to the shop you bought it , if you have not read the manual , a tip , 1 look how the dustbag is connected it must be good connected if not the problem is there , second the hose the hose must be connected good because if not the problem is there more options are not there for the master switch . if its controlled that the switches are god pushed in by mechanic parts of the dustbag connector or hose connector , it must run and stay on power the dustbag is the one that is the most probable connection what maybe not enough is turned to the motor housing have a stabil working on -off switch. if it not does made difference go immediatly back to the shop. with proof of purchase, you get an other new one if its a factory failure. or the powercable was accidentially bruised between a door or linger behind the powerplug and that why its faltering maybe.
Replacing a broken fan in a Kirby is not an easy job. You have to take off the handle, the top cover, the front piece covering the fan and then stick a wrench down onto the motor shaft to hold the shaft tight while you stick an awl or small screwdriver into the hole on the spindle sticking out the front of the vacuum. Turn the spindle to remove it so you can remove the fan. Install the new fan and reassemble the vacuum.
Dirt behind or ballbearing are you shure its the fan ? , the carbon brushes can also made sometimes a noise on the collectors of the commutator circuit if ingrained on the armature.
Ballbearings a defect armature or disbalans in the FAN a view more possibilitys a loose motorfield or things .
An example if its the fan a broken piece of it or other thing look here maybe its something loose only. (resonation)

There are much quality differences in belts but the foot pedal with arrow is made to set the hightbecarefully because of easy broken pedals . but if the brush is setting on the deepest stand then its not rotating anymore and the brush stands still. its very easy how you can disassemble the brush and can place them in 3 differend levels in height ? on the grey bearing holders outside of the brush there are 3 different indications l and ll and lll the best is to set so that the carpet if its a thin one the brush must setting just lower then the suction mouth so that the brush are more coming out so deeper come out of this suction mouth so that the suction mouth has made a little more distance from the carpet because when the brush rotate to deep insite the suction mouth .1 the tension of the belt on the brush is lower and .2 the suction mouth sucks vaccuum on the carpet and the brush doesnt rotate because of the force of suction power, play around with the different heights you find the right level.
