How to stop the shaft from spinning on a kirby g4 when trying to remove the spindle
If you're experiencing difficulty in removing the spindle on a Kirby G4 vacuum cleaner because the fan is spinning on the shaft, there are a few steps you can try to address this issue:
1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner: Ensure that the vacuum cleaner is unplugged from the power source to avoid any accidental injuries.
2. Secure the fan: Take a closer look at the fan assembly and identify if there are any parts that can be held or secured to prevent it from spinning. You may need to use tools like pliers or a wrench to hold the fan in place while you work on removing the spindle. Be cautious not to damage the fan or other components.
3. Determine the direction: Confirm the direction in which the spindle is threaded. Most Kirby vacuums have reverse-threaded spindles, which means you will need to turn it counterclockwise to loosen it.
4. Apply force to the spindle: Once the fan is secured, try applying counterforce to the spindle by turning it counterclockwise. You may need to use a wrench or pliers for better grip and leverage. Apply steady and controlled force, but avoid using excessive force that could potentially damage the components.
5. Penetrating oil: If the spindle is stubborn and difficult to loosen, you can try applying a small amount of penetrating oil, such as WD-40 or similar lubricants, to the junction between the spindle and the shaft. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to help loosen any potential corrosion or debris that might be causing the resistance.
6. Repeat the process: If the spindle still doesn't budge, repeat the steps above, ensuring that the fan is securely held in place and you're applying the correct force and direction to the spindle.
If you continue to experience difficulty or are unsure about proceeding, it might be best to consult a professional or reach out to the Kirby customer support for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance tailored to your vacuum model.

My Kirby heritage 2 won't start. How do I check the foot swtich?
There should be a definite audible click when you press down on the switch. Most switches also latch so that there is a little play in the foot switch when it is on.
Possible problems included - blown fuse in the plug, damaged cord, failed starter capacitor.
It may be an idea to take it to a local vacuum repair store and get an estimate for repair.
