After I scaned and faxed

Hi oliver_calga,

You can fix this if you access the internal maintenance mode and do the following:

1.First, press the Menu/Set button.

2.Then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2-3 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu.

3.Enter 80, and then scroll down with the arrow down key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the error message.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I just changed my yellow ink and printer is still

Hi there,
No Cartridge will show on the display if the machine cannot recognize one of the cartridge or one of the ink is empty. Try to unplug the mach from the power outlet then plug it back in after 10 seconds. If the display show "ink empty C" it means the cyan/blue needs to be replace. "ink empty M" it means the magenta/pink needs to be replace. "ink empty BK" it means that the black needs to replace.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks

Am I able to scan

The best way to scan images to save on yourcomputer is to use the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan functionon the scanner.
You don't say what type of scanner software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way:
1) Place photo on scanner
2) Open scanner software
3) Using the software, Initiate scan
4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder
Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures
5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned

Also, if you are just scanning, it should not matter what the ink situation is.

How to replace ink cartridge for mfc-240c

The cartridges are under the scanner and stay off to the right side of the unit except when printing or when you lift the scanner unit cover while the unit on. If the cartridges returns to the right, close the scanner unit cover and then reopen it. If the cartridge carrier doesn't move, make sure that the unit is turned on.

The black ink goes on the right side.

Printer shows " unable to clean 51 "

Hi,

The error code might mean that the print heads are worned out with usage or have clogged totally.

If the printer is in warranty then you should get it repaired by Brother for free. Else you will have to send it to Brother for paid repair where they will replace the print heads.

You can also try cleaning the heads your self but let me remind you that doing this will void your warranty and if you are not experienced enough, this might result to replacement.

Below are the steps you can follow to clean the cartridge.

To remove the head and clean would require a near disassembly of printer.

In short, open the lid as if to replace ink, unclip the bottom of the lid leg and swing open. leave ink
in.

Remove 4 screws and remove plastic clips to wires. Disconnect wires there are 4 or 5 in total. Now carefully unhook the lid from main unit, take your time.

After separating 2 parts. Unclip plastic cover on head, remove print head cable wire from head, unclip silver clip that hold ink hoses, undo top (in relation to head) slide bar, carefully remove head..
lift from no bar side first.

Soak under very warm water for a few minutes and get old ink out of the clear chambers. keep going, enough?? do it again! now... reassemble.

If you removed the ink tanks.. you now have a mess on the bottom of your printer, clean that before re assembley.
Reverse all of the above.

Hope this helps.

Says to install cartidges and afterwards says no

tmclark15,

Take the cartridge out and clean off the rear contact patch with a cloth saturated in alcohol. Make sure that you reinstall it correctly and properly. Your unit should work if it does not have additional problems.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

We did replace the black ink but unfortunately

Sometimes after a replacement cartridge it can form a air lock in the small tubes between the cartridge holder and the print head. simply remove the cartridge and replace it several times to get rid of the air bubble. Also make sure the Air valve is working correctly (its at the front-top of the cartridge). press this valve to ensure its operating correctly Some compatibles have a sticker over this hole that must be removed.
Hope this helps Regards GM

Printer not recognizing new cartridge

There are no electronics on these type of cartridges, there is a switch on the inside of the printer that detects if a cartridge in in place or not.
Take the cartridge out, unplug the printer for 5 mins and switch back on, replace the cartridge. If it is not a brother OEM cartridge then it is possible that is is not sitting inside its holder correctly, and not tripping the switch.
Hope this helps

I have a bother printer model mfc-240c and a dell

Hi,

The USB port on the printer is somewhat hidden on this model,

Lift both lids so you can see the inside of the printer(where you installed the ink) to the right of it there is an indented area in the grey plastic. Both the USB port and the telephone/fax port are located on a vertical section of the indented area. Once you plug the cables in there is a track to run the cables in that will drop them out the back of the printer.

Of Note: this model usually doesn't come with the USB cable included, if there isn't one in the box you may have to go back to the store and buy one for $10-$20 dollars.

Once you have the cables installed on the printer, run the disk that came with the printer, DO NOT plug the USB cable into the computer until the program on that disk tells you to.

Once you get through the foray of nexts and ok buttons it will eventually ask you to plug the printer into the computer and turn it on. Windows and the installer program will then complete the installation and you're on your way.

Hope This helps FixYa

Black ink not working

This could be due to many reasons, A Blocked print head or dried ink in the lines from the cartridges to the print head cause this, Also Damaged print heads due to running it without ink can cause the head to seize up!! Try replacing the Black Cartridge and running the head cleaning process. If this does not work Unfortunately the next step involved pulling the printer apart to Clear the blocked line or print head.
Hope this helps

When i print it comes

Could be your print head has gone out of alignment.
This is only a problem if you do bi-directional printing - speeds up printing but even when working correctly does degrade print quality a bit.
Do a print alighment test (see your user manual - available on the Brother website) and follow the instructions on the test sheet it will produce.
If this doesn't help, try disabling bi-directional printing. This will vary according to which operating system you have, but for example in Windows XP:
1. Go to Control Panel 2. Double click "Printers and Faxes" 3. Right click the appropriate icon for your Brother printer 4. Click on "Advanced" tab 5. Click on "Printing Defaults" button 6. Click on the "Settings" button 7. Un-check the "Bi -Directional Printing" box 8. "OK" to close all windows.
If neither helps, this most likely means your print head has been damaged. I'm afraid there is no simple solution to this problem. Repairing these machines isn't straight forward and parts are very difficult to obtain and very, very expensive, so much so that 99 times out of a 100, it isn't cost effective to repair. You could approach a Brother service agent, but it's highly probably that they will charge you more than buying an equivalent brand new machine.
