Serious! If the TV is new, you may check your homeowners insurance for a replacement. The Power company can Verify the power fluctuation for you. When an appliance receives a Power Surge like that, the sensitive electronics are damaged or weakened. For PROTECTION: Get a 1000Watt UPS and use it between the house power and the TV. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?lowprice=50&highprice=99.99&keywords=1000W%20UPS&cat=&mnf= Try This.

Sounds like the TV may be hooked up to a source with too much voltage, or getting overpowered in some other way. This is a safety hazard; if it's hot enough to melt the screen cover, it's hot enough to explode without warning. This isn't something you should try to fix yourself; call it in for servicing if you can. In the meantime, you should keep it unplugged.

My Sony Bravia remote control is slowly loosing it's functions.

You can repair some of these remotes. Usually the hard part is getting the cover off. they are not really made to be serviced. The problem with most all remotes that start doing what you describe is either wear or something spilled on it. You can fix it. Sony remotes may have 1 screw in the battery compartment. remove it and try sliding the front and back. If that dosen't work try prying from one side with a sharp edege. If you do manage to get it open take the PC board out. You will see a rubber like membrane that lays against the board. Try cleaning that with a qtip and rubbing alcahol. Then clean the PC board the same way especially where the pads of rubber contact the board. Make sure it's completely dry and snap it back together. If it works better good, if not the pads are to worn and you just have to replace. Good Luck.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.
