Acer Aspire 3100 boot up problem
unless it is something more serious, first keep pressing F8 when you turn on the notebook and it should enter safe mode.
When in safe mode select the operating system that is highlighted and then a screen will appear with options, one being 'Last Known good Configuration', highlight this and press enter.
The system will reboot and start again in windows as normal hopefully.
If you are not able to get a screen showing in safe mode there is something more serious wrong and it could be hard drive fault or motherboard, but if you can see the disc drive light flickering the system is loading and you may have a graphical fault.

0280:Previous boot incomplete - Default configuration used
Error Code: 0280 Previous boot incomplete - Default configuration used
Message Meanings : Previous POST did not complete successfully. POST loads default values and offers to run Setup. If the failure was caused by incorrect values and they are not corrected, the next boot will likely fail. On system with control of wait states, improper Setup settings can also terminate POST and cause this error on the next boot. Run Setup and verify that wait-state configuration is correct. This error is cleared the next time the system is booted.
What does the above mean ??? If the BIOS does not see a particular device loading ( like Hard Drive ) Try bringing up the Bios setting F-2 and reset to default. Hope this helps

Make sure ram modules are of the same brand any type IE corsair ddr3 low density or hynix high density ddr2 you should always try to keep the same brand and type of ram reason being the compatibility issue and always place the largest ram module closest the CPU central processing unit also check the ram sockets for dust and make sure the ram modules are securely seated you can do this by pressing the levers at either end of the ram sockets If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the
Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible
How do I
There are different ways that work, try and see what works for yours. Sometimes all you have to do is hit the space bar, press the enter key, hit any key, close the lid and open the lid and some require you to Press the Power Button. Don't worry pressing the power button will not reboot the computer unless you continuously hold it down. Just pressing and releasing it will cause the computer to wake up and resume.
Acer 3100 keeps saying media
The BIOS, the control program built into the motherboard, is set to try booting from devices in a certain order when the power comes on. Most computers are set to try the optical drive first, possibly a USB device next, then the hard drive, and finally to try booting over a network connection. The error message you're seeing is because it's tried the network boot without success, and is telling you that maybe you have a bad connection.
What this all means is that the hard drive isn't being detected, or something has happened to your WIndows installation. It may be that the hard drive has worked loose from its connector, or has developed a hardware failure. There may be some problem on the motherboard. Or you may have picked up a virus or other malware that has done something nasty to Windows.
The hard drive is under a cover on the bottom of the computer so you can check that it's properly seated. You can also enter the BIOS setup screen when you turn the computer on and check that the hard drive is being properly detected. If you have access to a Windows installation disc, you can use the diagnostic tools it provides to check the hard drive. If you don't feel you can do it yourself, there's probably a computer service shop in your area that for some fee can check the computer for you and tell you what needs to be done .
Hope you can get the problem straightened out quickly. Thanks for using Fixya!
