In my experience, your recorded video is in mod or mts format. No matter what, these HD formats cant be accepted by your imovie. U have to convert these hd formats to mov or mp4 imovie can accept.
I always use Pavtube HD Converter which can help me convert these hd formats to mov to use in my imovie. It is easy to use with high output quality.
