Display is OUT but everything functions....... what to do?

The problem is not the faceplate for any of you, it is inside the main unit. If you know how to solder, you can fix is very easy. First take the top off the unit, there is 1 screw in the back middle. Then take the CD player out. It has 2 screws holding it in at the front corners at the bottom of the CD deck. Use a number 2 phillips and take out the gold screws holding the CD deck in place. Then you can pull out the CD deck, and be careful not to damage the ribbon cable connected from the CD deck to the main board. The deck can just sit up and over to the left to get it out of the way for what needs to be soldered.
Look inside the main unit on the board and you will see in the front right corner a series of surface mount resistors all connected in series. Just reflow that solder on them with a small amount of new solder added and the display will once again work perfectly. That solder is very heat stressed, that is the problem. I have fixed dozens of these over the last few years. Make sure you put it back together the same as it came apart, and you are done.

Kenwood KDC-X590 Faceplate display problem

Yes, the problem is inside the main unit. I have fixed hundreds of these radios over the years.
The solder on these resistors get heat stressed and stop conducting properly. They just need a tiny little touch of solder.
With the radio in front of you and the face is facing you, take the top off and remove the CD mech. The CD mech can just be set over to the left a little and the ribbon cable to it can stay connected. Just move it out of the way gently. You will see a series of resistors in the right front corner area of the main board on top. They have 2R7 printed on them and there are quiite a few, all in that main area. Just resolder them and put it all back together again and the display will work normal.

Your KDC-X590

I have the kenwood x590. I have the lid open and the Cd mech out and looking straight down into the circuit board with the face pointed at me. Im looking at the right front corner and i see two two resistors labeled c20 and c18. To the right of those on the very edge of the board i have a row of chicklet looking things with number on top named 2r7. They are all named the same thing. Most of the number on my board starts with a C there are a few W's Q's.

Im guess the serial number on the board is j76-0169-02 x34-4150-10

Help.

Display goes out

Has anyone found a repair for this? My screen just died this morning...I've had it in my car for about 30K miles and I REALLY like the head unit...it's still working fine, but I can't even begin to try to mess with the EQ, or figure out what MP3 I'm going for without the screen :(
