There are three versions of the HP Compaq D530.

1) The Convertible Mini-Tower Desktop PC
2) The Small Form Factor Desktop PC (SFF)
3) The Ultra-Slim Desktop PC

The reason I bring this up is that if I knew what EXACT desktop computer you have, I could give you exact information on how to access the CMOS Battery, and replace it.

I'm going to use the Convertible Mini-Tower Desktop PC for an example,

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=316720&submit.y=8&submit.x=6&lang=en&cc=us&y=10&x=7

In the list click on >
Manuals, (guides, supplements, addendums, etc)

On this page scroll down to the bold heading > Service and maintenance information

Click on the file name >
HP Compaq Business Desktop D500 Service Reference Guide, 5th Edition
Allow the PDF file to fully download.

Use this same procedure on the HP Compaq D530 you have.

In the Bookmarks menu to the left, scroll down until you come to the heading >
Removal and Replacement Procedures - Convertible Minitower (CMT) Chassis

(If you have an SFF, or Ultra-Slim, it will be listed at the end of Removal and Replacement Procedures, instead of Convertible Minitower)

Now scroll down to > 6.15 Battery, and click on it.
Now go to the pages that follow.

(NOTE* You may wish to reduce the view size. Click on the Zoom Out icon.
{Circle at the top of the PDF file with a Minus ( - ) sign in it }

The CMOS Battery is a CR2032. A type of watch battery, found in an abundance of stores.

If you have questions please post in a Comment.

Ive got a hp compaq d530 it has a pentium 4 inside

You can take it from that machine, but you will need the same type of socket on the motherboard. The socket for that type of processor is Socket 478. You need to look for a motherboard that has this type of socket. Also look for Ram and make sure the new board has exactly that type if you want to take the memory from the compaq. The same operation for the VGA card, again if you want to take it from the compaq. You can use the hard drive from the compaq without a problem. You can connect also another hard disk

Hard drive sounds like it's taking off

Have you tried a defrag? I like a free program from download.com called Advanced System Care. Has a few options to diagnose and repair problems and also one that can clean unneeded files from the hard drive.
Not sure what else to tell you unless maybe the hard drive is starting to go bad.

Won't boot getting blue screen

hello, to start of blue screen can be result of several different things, ie incompatible drivers, corrupted os etc..
without going into detail of what might have caused it here is what you can try:
if you have windows CD try booting of the cd, (start computer with the CD in the drive) and follow the steps until you get to the screen where it says windows installation found and at the bottom of the screen you see an option to "Repair" it will look like its installing windows all over and it may ask for the CD key again.
CD key is usually located behind or side of the PC.

you can also try full recovery if your system came with recovery CDs2_bing.gif. keep in mind restore/recovery can be destructive(will delete all you existing data) depending upon which option you use.

use caution when selecting option.

please feel free to ask any questions if you are not sure, (better to be safe than sorry :-))

hope this help.
kind regards,

Amar Sondhi
