The battery is fully charged

Your batteries are either no good, or not charged. When you press the PTT button it takes more energy than being in standby mode. If you have a battery problem it will fail quickly when the PTT is pressed.

Rechargeable batteries last approx. 18-24 months. Check your battery for a 3-digit date code. It is usually a 3 digit number followed by a couple of letters. The numbers tell the date of manufacture. The first number is the year, followed by the week of the year. 025 would be 2010 the 25th week. (or if very old it could be 2000 the 25th week.)

If you feel age is not a problem, you might check your charger(s) to see they are fully powered, and clear of debris on the contacts (and the radio contacts as well). Clean with a pencil eraser if needed.

A few tips: Be certain when placing your radios on the charge they are turned off. Check your wall outlet to be certain it doesn't get shut off with a light switch. Expect to replace your batteries every 2-3 years.

Best regards.

What is H and L push to talk?

You do not mention the type of Motorola radio so these comments will be generic in nature:You need to have your radio turned off when plugging in a headset or audio device. Then press the PTT once after turning on the radio. This should aclimate the headset to the radio. If you were to plug in the headset with the radio turned on, it will appear to be in VOX. But will be stuck with the Transmit side open.Your H and L PTTs are likely a high power 1-2 watts and a low power one half watt setting. Without the radio model and user guide, we cannot research this further.Best regards.

Trying to program sp21 to a sp10

If your SP21 and SP10 are both either VHF or UHF, it is possible to program them to match one another. The SP10 is limited to 16 available channels, programmable by 4 dip switches behind the battery compartment of the radio. Great care must be used in removing the entire battery tray to get to the dip switches. Many times we see radios which have damaged mylar battery leads when someone attempts to get to the dip switches by removing the thin plastic/copper liner behind the battery. DO NOT remove this piece. It will come out with the battery tray. The tray is somewhat of a picture frame which holds the battery in place. In the SP10 radio it is removeable by slipping a small screwdriver or thin car key in the slot at the bottom of the radio and gently prying up. This will begin to dislodge the tray and you can pick it up and pull it out of the radio. (The upper battery contacts near the center of the radio will remain with the radio. The bottom battery contacts, if any, will come out with the tray.) At this point you should be able to see the 4 dip switches. The four most common VHF settings are:ALL ON = GREEN DOTALL OFF = BLUE DOT2 ON 2 OFF = RED DOT2 OFF 2 ON = PURPLE DOTYour preference on these should be limited to green and blue dot, as they are license-free, and are the only wideband frequencies still okay to use after Jan. 1, 2013, when the narrowband change takes place. If your SP10 is UHF, or has 8 additional dip switches in the lower left below the main component board, you have PL. It would be best if you call someone who can help you with programming, as it is too lengthy to type more about this here. The SP21 is PTT programmable. You hold in the PTT button while turning the radio on, and it will announce its frequency, press the monitor button once, and it will both lock in your frequency setting and announce the PL code setting. Either of these is changeable by pressing the PTT, followed by pressing the monitor button to lock in the new setting. The primary VHF settings for the SP21 are as follows:Freq 1 = Red dotFreq 2 = Purple dotFreq 3 = Blue dotFreq 5 = Green dotOnce again, your preference, if you are VHF, should be toward Blue and Green dot frequencies.Best regards.

We have a set of

In order to reset the radio, power on while pressing both volume buttons (+ and -) together with the PTT (speak) button, until you year a high-pitched tone. But I have found that the "stuck on receive" problem is related to the battery voltage: non-rechargable AAA or incorrectly charged batteries can give 0.2-1.0V above the nominal voltage. Try to leave the radio on for a few hours or replace some of the four AAA batteries with slightly exhausted ones and see if that helps.

Narrowband or wideband

The answer to your question depends on the radio model. Some radios have the capability when being programmed to have wide- or narrowband designated by channel. An example would be current model Motorola business/commercial radios such as the CP200.Radios produced in the early 2000s were sometimes manufacturered in just one type of channel spacing. In these radios the entire radio is either wideband or narrowband. In radios produced prior to 2000, most all were wideband only.Best regards.

Looking for a 21" antenna for a Motorola SP10

There are custom made antennas for portables. But the better solution is by eradiostore, use a mag mount.1) custom portable antenna, expensive.2) Motorola adaptor to BNC to longer antenna (portable, car type or base station).3) NO power increase, not only are those frequencies designed for low power the board inside the radio cannot handle the heat and is not changeable or adjustable.

Your battery may be fully charged but defective. To test try swapping the battery from a known good unit into the radio and see if you have the same problem. Check your battery contacts, and clean with a pencil eraser if needed. If these do not solve the problem, your radio is likely bad.Best regards.
