It's the focus motor gears. They have been knocked out of alignment, and the noise is the tiny focus motor spinning. The lens will need to be disassembled to fix it, but it is fixable...unfortunately, you probably won't get help from Casio.

One thing that you can do and I swear it works perfectly is try fixing it with a 9volt battery. Get 2 wires and put them on the +positive and -negative connectors. Then put the other ends of the wires on the positive and negative sides of your camera. Just remember put positive with positive and negative with negative. Hold for 30 seconds and then try it again.. You can thank me later...

I posted on Nov. 25th that I was having the same problem and would be contacting Casio to report the issue. Well did and want to update all of you on the results. I have great news on the blur/fuzzy issue for the EX-Z70 Casio. I called the Casio help line 800-706-2534 and explained the problems I was having with the camera - and mentiond that I believed this to be a manufacturer's defect as I found postings on the internet from other owners of the same camera which were bought around the same time I made my purchase. The rep was very helpful. She instructed me to write exactly what I told her in a letter and mail the camera to the address she provided. If I had my receipt I should include a copy of it - which I did. I mailed the camera requesting repair or replacement on Nov. 26, 2007 and received my camera back today Dec 6, 2007. That's only ten days - Repaired!! The repair report indicates the lens assembly and lens ring were replaced - and a new battery was incuded in the box. The packing slip indicates Defect Code #11. So this IS a camera defect and they were absolutely GREAT about repairing it ASAP and supplying me with a new battery too. Call Casio today and you will have your camera back by Christmas. Hey, I just had this problem with a Sanyo battery pack (and i thought it was the non-sanyo Li battery) and noticed it wasn't getting warm even 2 hours after "charging" and the red light was flashing - so i turned it off, disconnected the cable from the charger and realised it could go the other way, so tried that AND IT WORKED! i don't know what that cable is called, the 2-prong black cable, but give that a go (turn off in between!).

I HAVE A RED BLINKING LIGHT, AS WELL. FIRST, I CALLED STAPLES, BECAUSE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED. AFTER A 10 MINUTE TUG OF WAR, WITH AN AUTOMATED OPERATOR, I WAS FINALLY CONNECTED TO A HUMAN. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A BATTERY ISSUE AND IT WAS NOT COVERED ( BIG SURPRISE ). SO, I JUST CALLED CASIO @ 1-800-435-7732. A LIVE OPERATOR ( BONNIE ) CAME ON THE LINE WITHIN 2 MINUTES. SHE ASKED ME THE MODEL NO. ( EX-Z75 ) AND PURCHASE DATE ( CHRISTMAS '07 )...SHE SAID THAT IT HAS BECOME AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE LITHIUM BATTERY. A NEW REPLACEMENT BATTERY WILL BE SENT OUT, TOTAL FREE OF CHARGE WITHIN 5-7 DAYS! NO PROOF OF PURCHASE WAS REQUIRED. CASIO IS A PLEASANT SURPRISE IN TODAYS CORPORATE WORLD.
WHILE POSTING THIS, I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE THE 9 VOLT BATTERY TRICK A TRY. AGAIN, I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED...IT WORKS! :)

you have to take it apart the card has a switch on the side which bumps a pin insided the camera which grounds out the camera to lock it. You have to take it apart and pry that little tab out just a bit so no connection and it will work great. I just did it and no issues.

If the red light is flashing after inserting a NP-20 battery in the Casio Lithium Charger BC11-L, it means that the battery will not take a charge. Normally when putting the batterry in the charger, the light will be a constant red. After charging is complete, the red light will go out. Battery is then fully charged and ready for use.
