Denon AVR-3300 Receiver - Page 5 Questions & Answers

After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird
Unit''trips'' off shortly after powering up
Disconnect ALL of the speaker wires from the back. Turn it on again, if it still trips, then the unit needs to be repaired. If it does not trip with no speaker wires connected, turn it back off, connect 1 speaker at a time and turn it on, when it does trip, that speaker that you just put on has a short somewhere, it could the be the wire or in the speaker.
No Audio Output
OK.....there was a strange thing with this receiver......make sure that you are not on " headphones only ". Had a customer with the same problem. As for the fan, it doesnt run constantly. It only runs when the amp is hot enought to require extra cooling.....HOWEVER....there was a problem with the fans on these units, so much so, that Denon released a modification for the 3300 including a new fan and some upgraded circuitry.
If the unit is not flasning " protection ", or " overload".....you should be OK., however I would spend a few bucks and get the fan mod installed.....these are good sounding units and ecen though it does not have Dolby PL II, and DTS-ES, I have owned a couple of them and find that they sound better than most new ones. Get out your owners manual and look in the headphone section. If memory serves me well, there is even a way to do it with the remote. Good luck.... Rob
Denon AVR 488 got picture
the hdmi does not carry sound on the box its only a pass through, if you want digital quality sound it has to go through dig coax, or preferably optical(toslink)
No sound from Sub.... from my Denon AVR-2700, not AVR-3300, Yeah its old!
if the subwoofer is on in the reciecer settings then maybe the amp is not getting the signal or the amp is not amplifying
try unplugging the output of the sub then turn off the reciever for a min. then turn it on wait , then plug the sub in
if that don't work then test the sub output with a stereo that has a audio input
also test the subwoofer with a audio output to it( only a positive and a negitive wire for sub)
AVR-3300 Static and Sound Loss
The Denon Curse.......the connectors that the input boards ( up and down if your receiver is in the normal position ), plug into one of the 2 main boards on the bottom. These connectors are suspect and need to be cleaned and re-soldered. Same with the board that runs from the input side of the unit ( right behind the front panel, running across the unit ) to the amplifier board. Denons were HORRIBLE for bad connections with these. This is an involved repair requiring the entire thing to be pulled apart. It is not an afternoon job for a do-it-yourselfer, take it to an authorized Denon repair shop, as I GUARANTEE that they have seen this problem many times for all models from 2000-01-02-03. Good luck..... Rob
Can't get my setup on
Make sure you are connecting the receiver to the TV by S-Video, not component.
Make sure your remote switches are on "Audio" and "Deck". Should work then.
Intermittent audio output
It's quite possible one of the relays is failing that is part of the switch between audio output choices. Do you notice any output difference between a certain output (i.e. dvd, tape etc)or is that point arbitrary?
Horizontal Purple bars appear on monitor
heat sinks get hot....thats what they are there for. Are you using the composite, S, or Component video ?
Composite or S :.....The board for these is right next to the heatsink. It may very well be that the heatsink has "cooked" the solder on this board, and now it is intermittant. More likely is that there is a suspect solder connection that was there from the factory from day 1. I would get a shop to look at it, unless you are very handy with a screwdriver and a low wattage soldering iron. Be forewarned, the connectors for these boards that connect them to the main circuit board on the bottom of the unit are SUPER FLAKY and taking it apart might cause more problems.
Component Video:...THe component video is on the power side of the unit and if very easily accessable. Again, IF you are handy with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, I would unplug the unit, remove the top cover and re-solder the component video board, starting with the connections on the RCA jacks where the component cables plug in. If you dont feel comfortable doing that, leave it to a shop...in any casem the bill should be minimal......good luck....rob
Avr 3300
Sounds right. Yes it is a shame because it is one of the nicest sounding home theatre receivers. Especially in good old 2 ch stereo. Which is a true test of the basic design of an amplifier. If it sounds good after you strip away all the bells and whistles, then you have a nice house on a solid foundation. Otherwise you have a nice house built on sand. ....good luck and I know the dealer can sort it out properly. ....Rob
Receiver will not output any sound
1st Try to push (ON) A/B speaker Selector terminal. 2nd try to reset the speaker relay by put the volume on 15% and short-cicuit the speaker terminal for just 1 sec. with the power ON. Good luck
Denon AVR-3300 Center Chanel Sound Problem
My guess is You have dried out electrolytic capacitors causing failure. These receivers when they get over 6 years old start drying out fluid in capacitors especially on regulator p.c.b. causing noisy supply lines. I work for Authorized service center in Michigan If you need repair and Shipping to Michigan is economical let me know
