Why is my Dell Monitor Blank

If you have another computer, try and see if you can hook it up to that and test it. If it still doesn't work it may be dead.

Dell E171FP - goes blank

You need to look for bad solder joints, bad caps, shorted transistors, etc,
See example here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/DELL/

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Have a 16

You need to hold the menu button for 15 seconds until the lock icon changes to unlock. Then you should be able to adjust the brightness of the monitor, assuming that the backlight is working properly. Hope this helps you.

We had a power outage at my shop and now my Dell

This generally is not good news, when the power comes back on it peaks causing the damage in it's wake. The power supply has been compromised and if you are very lucky you might get away with a fuse change. The monitor will need to be dis-assembled to assess the situation and hopefully it will start back up with minimal repairs. The fuse should be located near the power cord going into the circuit board.

Monitor powers on but screen is black. then a grey

Hi! I believe that the monitor has come to its end. 6 years is quite long for a monitor. You may have it repaired for there may be blown capacitors that needs replacement but a new monitor will be a great idea. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

Was working then screen went black now it seems

More likely to be inverter board for the backlight has gone out or the power supply that supplies the voltage to the inverter board has gone out. You hav to take it apart to find out.

Dell E171FP Monitor goes black after 2 secs

Hi, I don't think the problem is with your monitor. Your monitor sounds like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The monitor is supposed to turn off if there's no cable attached, which means there's no signal input. When the screen goes black, does the power light stay on and turn orange? or does it go off as well? I would recommend that you lower your screen resolution to 1280x1024 or lower in the Display Properties window, then remove your primary monitor, and connect the monitor to your desktop computer. You should see it light up when connected. The monitor auto-senses when there's a computer attached to the cable and when there's a signal. If it doesn't see a signal, it goes black to save power.
