Prints vertical lines crooked
You should be able to go into the print driver settings and do a print head alignment.
That should cure the problem.

I cannot access the exsisting print cartridges to replace them on my hp psc 500 printer
HiPlease note that the print cartridges can only be accessed when the printer is on.
- Turn the printer on.
- To access the cartridges,open the cartridge access door on the front of the printer and right above the paper output tray.
- The cartridge carriage moves to the center so you can access it.
- On the top of each cartridge is a latch,lift it.
- You need to grasp the handle at the top of the cartridge pull forward and lift it up to remove.

Saludos aparentemente el problema esta es que el scanner no tiene drives para el windows 7. Te sugiero que vuelvas a la pagina de HP y trates de bajar con el sistema opertivo d Vista ya que este es el mas cercano al sistema que usas. Trata de sacar el programa en tu computadora , vuelves a instalarlo. Suerte!!!

You will need the original disc that came with your printer.
If you do not have the disc, simply go to HP's main website (www.HP.com) and click on the 3rd tab, which is "Support & Drivers." Find your product and download the drivers for it. Save them to your desktop and once the download is complete, click on the icon(s) and follow the on screen instructions.

HP PSC 500 makes loud
The carrier shaft is probably dry. Use sewing machine oil or 3 in 1 oil and put a couple drops on either side of the carrier, move is back and forth a couple times then power on. While in there, clean the pick roller with a damp cloth and rub the rollers horizontally
