Hi, According to your problem, first check the battery status. recharge the battery or replace it. Make sure that your GPS device is updated. Check the software update and the firmware update. You may need a master reset for your GPS device. But first make sure the battery is OK or replace the battery.

Most of the causes of this kind of problem pertains to unstable operating software.

Update the internal operating software of your Garmin device.

• Download and install the Garmin WebUpdater from this link http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=931
• Select the appropriate version of the WebUpdater based on your computer's operating system
• Click "I agree to the above terms and want to proceed to the download page"
• Connect your Gamin Device to the computer.
• Click Download
• Select Run when the pop up box appears
• Select Run if a message appears asking "Do you want to run this software?"
• Click Next when the WebUpdater installation page appears
• Check the box to accept the licensing terms and select Next
• Select Done to complete the WebUpdater download
• Once WebUpdater is installed on your computer, select the application, if it does not automatically open, to run the program and follow these prompts:
• Select Next on the WebUpdater Wizard
• Select Find Device and Next
• Select Next to update the unit software on your device
• Follow the prompts to complete the process
• Once you have updated your device, you will be prompted to search for additional updates. To load any additional updates, check the box next to the specific updates you wish to download. Select anything that relates to firmware and GPS software.
• Once selected, click Next and check the Agreement box. At this point the updates will run directly to your Garmin device.
• Once the update is complete you will see a box showing the downloads and if they were a success.
• Click Finish and unplug your Garmin from the computer to allow the updates to load.
• Once the update(s) are loaded, your device will return to the normal agreement screen and it will be ready to operate.
• Some products will shut off after the update is complete. Turn the device back on to continue if this occurs.

I don't think those are user replaceable, call Garmin Support at 1800-800-1020 and they can get you all squared away. it may be a flat repari rate trhough them.

re-run the map update, you are missing your map file. you will need Garmin Express for that.

I suggest you try resetting the device by following the instructions in the owner's manual. If the issue persists, it may be due to an error in the map database. You can try reinstalling the maps to the memory card after unlocking them for your device. If you are still experiencing issues, please contact Garmin Product Support for further assistance . By 'resetting' you mean it switches off, and because it is connected to power, it boots back up. Do you have a SD Card in it? I had trouble with a Nuvi 1350 with SD Card that had the whole USA Map on it, mine came with the Canada Map only. It would randomly turn off, so I decided to buy a Factory Refurbished Drive 50. I removed the SD Card and Reset the Nuvi and it worked perfectly after that. The Drive 50 was also a bit flaky, and resetting fixed that as well. You can back up your Favourites beforehand.

I recently purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 78s I had a lot of trouble calibrating the compass; I literally tried it hundreds of times without success. I also did a hard reset etc etc. Believe me I definitely tried everything possible but to no avail I did contact Garmin but they didn't have an answer straight away for the problem I have now sorted it as follows: Do each step VERY SLOWLY, MUCH slower than you think you should There are three steps to go through in calibrating the compass 1)Spinning the whole unit around flat 2)Flipping it over longitudinally and then 3) Flipping it over end to end. But remember do each step VERY slowly and go to the next step when prompted by the unit This solved my issue. I can now calibrate my compass 9 out of 10 attempts Hope that helps

Hi Earl, Sometime it could just be of aging. I have a 130, it was having similar problems, until i realized it was the screen not showing, but power on turning on. In your case, I probably probably try a hard factory reset as follows: To perform a master reset:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press the PAGE, ENTER2, and POWER buttons simultaneously.
3. Release all buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? message appears.
4. Select Yes.
