From your description it sounds like a yoke problem, you describe an hour glass picture which is a classic symptom of the horizontal sector of the yoke is at fault. The easiest way to test for this is a ringer tester, chances are it will show a short in the horizontal winding which causes the high voltage to load down and draw more current in the process.

That picture tube may be sensitive to nearby magnetic fields. If you have external speakers, move them a little further from the set. another possible fix is the degauss option in the menu. Very well rated set, I hope this helps:)

Maybe. It appears that there may be a bad connection. Probably a bad solder joint. The problem started after I moved the TV. Today I was a little frustrated and jarred the TV pretty good while moving it. The problem went away and hopefully will not return. When and if it does I guess I'll have to check internally for a bad connection.

KD-34XBR2 calibration
Well most of the time you are not going to want to get into the service menu of any tv, unless you know what you are adjusting and actually have the required test equipment. Most of the time you can get away with putting in a dvd that has the THX optimizer and adjusting the normal user settings that way. A dvd with the THX optimizer is Indiana Jones. Hope this helps.

Tv maintenance
Yes it is wise to vacuum the dust of your tv at the back. What i do once a year is open the tv ( after your warranty period runs out) and blow the tv out completely in order to keep the prints free from dust
