Sony KV-36XBR400 36" TV - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Picture is going fuzzy and blinking red light...
This is the classic symptom of a CRT (picture tube)that is starting do get weak. The picture takes longer and longer to come on, it appears greenish and blurry, and it blinks on and off in different scenes, and when it is off the timer LED blinks 5 times. Sony has a circuit called "IK Blanking" which monitors and adjusts the colors in the picture tube, and shuts the picture off when the tube is getting too weak. The good news is that the Sony tubes always respond beautifully to a CRT rejuvination (recharge), and the picture returns to perfect. Since the set is 36 inches and VERY heavy, it should be serviced in-house and an appropriate charge for a service call for your set should be around $150.
Sony 46 inch XBR3
Since you have a lit power light, you are getting AC power.
Your set either has a blown internal fuse (or circuit breaker) or a power supply problem. If you can reset its breaker or replace its fuse, you may be able to fix it yourself. If not you need professional service.
Good luck! :)
HV Sound no Picture
Sounds as though there is an intermitant, heat-related problem with the HV transformer. You can order this at a tv parts shop or from Sony (probably more expensive) the part number should be on the part or on a schematic. If not, the parts dealer can look it up from the model number.
Good luck! :)
T V Shuts off by itself, after a couple of minutes.
Hi there,
here is some tips for ur TV which blinks 4 time.

Tv
This is a symptom of a problem known as blloming the is when the grids of the elctron guns in the picture tub loose the ability to contron the electron beam due to a gain in electron beam level. This needs to be repaird in an TV reparr shop.
SOUND NO PICTURE
Hello,
You have a high voltage section problem I would not suggest fixing this set on your own. You will need to take this set to the shop. Because there are no user repairable parts inside of the set.
TV will not stay on for longer than 5 minutes
This sounds like the shutdown circuit is shutting down the TV due to an over current condition. This overcurrent condition is caused by a component in the HV section drawing excessive current.
the 5 blinks is a visual indication of the problem.

Red diagonal spottted lines
These are called retrace lines they occur because of the blanking pulse not turning off the electron guns in the picture tube during the retrace period. Since this is occuring with the red gun there may be a proble with the video circuitry connected to the red electron gun of the picture tube. This would include the red amp and the red driver transistors. You will need a schematic and a multimeter to properly test these items.
Sony 36' trinitron no picture but sound
I don't think it's your picture tube, but it may be a problem in your high voltage power supply. If there is no anode voltage then there is no raster (light from the screen) or picture. If it is your high voltage section the you may want to think about taking the set to a shop because of the danger of electrical shock.
SOUND BUT NO PICTURE
I HAVE A PROBLEM ON SHARP 21 INCHES THE PROBLEM IS NO VIDEO BUT THERE WAS A SOUND IF I PUSH THE CHANNEL UP AND DOWN WILL DISPLAY OR VOLUME OK BUT NO DISPLAY BLACK SREEN

So far you have done all you can and you have done everything right. The fact that the TV turned off by itself and then turned back on by itself suggests that one or more solder joints have come loose inside the set. A qualified tech should find this easy to fix, and Sony sets are always worth repairing, so it is now time to have the set serviced by a tech experienced in Sony standard sets.
Sony 32XBR400 Wont Power On
I do not believe the set is too far gone. The standby light blinks codes up to 7. If the standby light blinks more than 7 times it usually means that there is a short on the clock or data line. There are several small zener diodes connected to the clock and data lines in a couple of different places on the main board. Many times I have seen one of the zener diodes become very leaky, usually along the back of the board, loading down the clock or data line which produces the symptoms you are seeing. If you have no experience locating shorted zener diodes and unsoldering and soldering small parts, allow a qualified tech to service the set for you.

What is the designation (the letters/numbers printed on the board right next to the part) of the part? If it is a cpacaitor then it is cesignated Cxxx, but I have a feeling you are looking at a VDR, or voltage dependant resistor that Sony loves using in their power supplies. A VDR will test completely open on an ohm meter and open on a cpaacitance meter, which means it is good. A VDR that shows resistance on an ohm meter is bad and will probably have a burned resistor (typically 10 ohms) next to it. A wise tech would NOT replace a VDR that measures open!
TV shuts off by itself in full picture mode
The Sony sets are full of circuits which monitor and detect faults throughout the set. These circuits monitor main B+ voltage and current, low B+ voltage and current, vertical and horizontal circuits and CRT current. Finding an intermitten problem in these circuits is no easy task and should be left to someone with experience in Sony sets.

Hi there,
please change the Flyback transformer.

Distorted Picture.
All wide angle Cathode Ray Tubes have to have magnets around their periphery at the back. They are fixed on metal strips so they can be moved slightly. The effect is to alter the shape of the picture towards the corners. Try this, but remember their original position in case it gives the wrong change in shape (linearity).
There are also parts of the circuit which control linearity by altering the shape of the line or frame scan waveform.
In your case it is the line scan which needs correction and there should be several adjustable components.
In some TVs, the effect the edjustment has is clearly marked by a symbol or word.
You may need special tools and be aware of high voltage parts.
Unplug the TV while you move a magnet etc.
