How do i get the police code for haverhill mass
There are no codes, only frequencies, and you can find a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, along with a lot of other useful scanning information, by visiting:
www.RadioReference.com
If local law enforcement is using trunking, digital transmissions, or P25 security, you'll need a scanner that offers those features. Still, there are security systems, such as DES and DVP, that you cannot "get around" with any scanner. For digital trunking and P25 decoding, check out the Bearcat BCD396XT handheld and the Bearcat BCD996XT base/mobile.

I want to put frequencies channels into my bc140
I couldn't locate a manual for your oldie, but it's fairly simple to operate.
- Turn the scanner ON.
-
Press "Manual" to stop scanning . Use the keyboard to choose the channel you want to enter
your first frequency into. If you want channel 2, press the number 2 on
the keyboard and then "Manual" again. If you want channel 12, press the
1 and then the 2 and then "Manual" again.
-
Enter
the desired frequency, including the decimal point. For instance, if the
frequency is 555.789, enter 5, 5, 5 and then the dot button, then 7, 8
and 9. Then press "Enter" to complete the setup.
-
Use
the "Manual" button to move to the next channel to enter the next
frequency. Continue this process until you have all frequencies entered.
-
Complete
your entries and then press "Scan." Set the squelch by turning the
"Squelch" knob all the way up and backing off until you hear no
static.
-
Lock
out a channel that is annoying you by pressing the "Lockout" button. If
you want to listen to the channel again, simply select "Manual," find
the channel by entering it on the keypad and then hit "Lockout" again

Antenna connection
It sounds like you are right. While you may not be mechanically inclined, you can easily open the scanner to see what is wrong. Unplug it from the wall and turn it over, so that the bottom is facing up. Remove all of the screws you can see. A regular sized phillips screwdriver should do fine for this. If you have removed all the screws you can see, there may be some below the rubber feet on the bottom of the scanner. You can peel these off with a flat screwdriver. Once you have the screws out, gently remove the bottom panel. From here you likely will be able to see the antenna connector. Is the connector just separated from the board, or is the board cracked? If it is just separated, it can probably be soldered back into place. If the board is cracked, it may not be worth repairing.
Now for the fun part...if it looks like the connector just separated from the board, it needs to be soldered back onto the board. If you feel like you want to do it yourself, there are a ton of tutorials and videos on the internet on how to solder electronics. The iron you need will be in the 25 watt range, and can be found at Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, or probably even a hardware store.
If you're not feeling super adventurous, there are probably many resources that can help you with this. Any TV or radio repair shop (the old style Mom and Pop ones--not Best Buy or the major chains) should be able to do it. If you cannot find one in your area, you may be able to find an amateur radio group in your area who may be able to point you in the right direction. Heck, they may even be able to fix it for you.
Good luck, and I hope this information helps get your scanner up and running in no time!

There's no need to "cancel" or "clear" a frequency. Just select the channel and program the new frequency -- that will automatically override the old programming. Need the manual for your scanner? You can download/print it here:

There's a good chance that your community has changed from conventional frequency usage to a trunked radio system. If that's the case you can read up on it at RadioReference.com, but you won't be able to monitor the action with your current scanner.
