I can believe it!! It's nothing new to me. In my opinion the Phillips programmable remotes are about the worse ones out there... They always give me grief, and i have customers asking about them all the dang time since they are the most common found in stores as replacement remotes. If the light flashes at step 3 that means you entered an invalid code, and the remote exits programming mode. So double check the code your trying to enter or try another code for your brand, but rapid flashing means an invalid code.

First, the RU430 model doesn't exist in the Phillips database...but you also chose the PM335 category, and that one we can work with.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.
