If lamp, color wheel (if used), or a number of other things are wrong set will do just as you describe.remove lamp and inspect to see if shattered inside.with lamp removed look where it faces (may need a mirror) to see if the wheel is there and or shattered or broken.first two things to look at. Your color wheel is most likely the cause of the sound and will most likely need replacement.

If the power indicator blinks 5 times its usually indicating failed capacitors on the AC in board. Let me know what cycle the power indicator goes through when you press power and I will assist with the problem.

The color wheels are famous for needing replacement when the bearings wear out. Thats usually the only thing other than the Lamp fan that can cause noise near the lamp.

Your lamp blew. Replace it.

the loud pop you heard was probably a capacitor blowing its top. The grinding noise is likely high voltage arching that was occuring due to rising voltage since capacitor isn't there to smooth it out.

I believe the Lamp has failed.

no the color wheels usually have a segment break off. they are very fragile. try and look on the TRITRONICS website

You are right it is the color wheel that is causing all that noise. The color wheel has to replaced, oil or WD will not fix it. To get a replacement it is best to call the manufacture and they will ship the part directly to you.

Use Extneral Audio Jacks to a stereo for sound or replace audio output ic.

If you can solder, first look for poor solder connections. Resolder any connections that appear grainy or have rings. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged. The bottom line here is that either there are bad connections that are causing circuit characteristics changes or there are defective parts. Trying the resoldering is the easiest at this point. Update this with any symptom changes if the resoldering does not completely resolve the problem.

This is 98% your color wheel. This coming from the TV repair shop. I have the same issue, and I'm trying to find a color wheel now. noone seems to have onein stock. I'm trying to find someoene to rebuild the one i have.

as a technician i dont feel the color wheel is a difficult repair. HOWEVER ..color wheel relacement means sometimes depending on model removal of light engine. which means you can get into alignment issues. then once the color wheel is replaced then it too has to be alligned.
