All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

What makes you think Blue tube is Bad ,It may just need coolant fuild changed out.

Try removing the AC power cord from the wall, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds or so, then plug it in and try it again. This may reset the timer to default off position. Otherwise unplug it overnight to make sure all the capacitors have fully discharged then plug it in and try again.

You are going to have to reconverge your TV. Order a service manual and it has a 20 page set of instructions on how to set up the convergence for the first time with new convergence amplifiers. Once you have done this procedure the "perfect picture" one touch control should be enough to keep it in convergence. You must have the original remote control in order to do the convergence procedure.

There will be two big Audio Amplifiers on the convergence board, they will say STK382 or some such STK number on them. Look for burned connections on the bottom of them and resolder any suspect connections before anything else. If that doesn't work, get an ohm meter across the various outputs and look for one of them with vastly different readings than the others and change the chip with the funky readings. Lastly look for the connection to the edge sensors on the sides of the screen about half way up. If that wire is disconnected it will give a very bad picture that is very similar to what you are describing.

Hard to tell, but my first guess is that the green or blue video amp, or guns on the picture tube have failed.

The convergence chips have gone out. It costs about $300 if it's not under warranty. This is a common problem with all rear projection tv's.

This is a very common problem with all projection tv's it is the stk392 ic's in your set have failed. You can attempt the repair yourself as long as you understand the risks involved when working inside a tv, otherwise you can get it repaired by a pro and i would guesstimate it will cost somwhere between 250 to 300 to fix. the ic's are located on a big heatsink and the number stk392-xxx xxx If xxx is beteween the numbers 110 and 180 you can use the stk392-180 for the repair, and i would recomment doing this. if it is stk392-560 or another number replace only with the same ic.

if you have access to the color canyons then you can see one of the three is not lighting. (RED). So there is a process to know if the tube is totally inoperative or it can be saved. This process consist of trying to find the High voltage and second the video driver signal. A process difficult to do specially managing the high voltage who is really risky. be really careful to know to manage this area, a stroke can happen if you are not sure
The second area you mean divergence in reality is convergence. This area can be adjusted or repaired when three tubes can work, so go ahead with the diagnosis of the tube. or ask for a estimate in a workshop.

Hi, convergence amps have blown, if you have soldering equipment and are proficient at soldering & un-soldering you can make the repair if not you need to calll a tv tech, there is also an alignment that must be done with the original remote once you install the IC`s, if your capable of this get back to me and I`ll look up the parts for you, video-tek

tv image is bigger than the screen size.

The auto focus is not actually focusing the tv. When it is running it is adjusting the convergence. Most likely the repairman that replaced your tuner didn't plug the sensor wires back in. I would call him back out and have him hook it back up.

There should be a convergence menu in the tv. Use the samsung remote and go into the menu and look for convergence.

as mine done that moved away speakers now all is fine

bro you should take it to the repairer,No other options you have. it can't be fixed by doing anything accept changing it's screen or repairing it, if it's possible
