You shouldn't have to tighten the cart slot. It would need cleaned, the connections can get corrosion on them or just plan dust build up. If you can't get a game to work cleaning that first would be easier then the genesis.
if you can get a hold of the rgb - scart lead for your megadrive it should come straight on , hope this this helps ( the rgb plug fits into the socket that has the 8 pins )
if your screen is black and you unplug the cable from the megadrive , does the screen go blue ? if so the machine is sending out an a/v signal to the tv and your problem lies with the game cartridge contacts being dirty or the contacts in the slot on the console being dirty , try cleaning the contact strip with some electrical contact cleaner on a cotton bud or small paint brush , hope this helps ,its saved loads of my games
The Sega Megadrive was notorious for similar issues with its sound. It has been reported that you can alleviate the problem by using an RF cable connection instead of the AV cable. (you would need to get your hands on an RF cable though)
Some people have relayed the issue to a grounding problem and that you might need to look at other items that are attached to the same power source. (although I find this not likely with the Megadrive)
Sometimes it could also be just a kink in one of the audio wires and that using only one of the red or white RCA plugs will sometimes bypass the issue.
Genesis is very picky about the exact amount of volts it takes in and even a fraction of a difference causes issues. Might be possible that just simply getting a new AC adapter might alleviate your problem as something might have caused your AC adapter to frag on you a bit?
Try pluging your red and white cables into a seperate speaker system to see if that changes the audio? Possably into your stereo system or external speaker units?
Hope one of these will assist you in the right direction?
Your in luck.... The MEGA DRIVE is my specialty.
2 soultions, both hard
1 If you have a !st gen mega drive(Has a 16-BIT sticker on front then go to the link below)
2 It is a link to modiefy your mega drive to start composite video
Second one
Try finding the Composite video adapter on ebay or somewhere else.
I have a genesis/mega drive and have been looking to up the amp on it FOREVER, misfortunately I don't have the tools and my dad doesn't trust with with a soldering gun
Its not too hard, and if you have a model two, I posted a video for it for a model one mod, follow the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBalxMi20Yc (part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss067E78Hz0 (part 2)
Thank you for your time, Good luck and I hope this helps
I think those have the old style RF connectors.A coaxial cable with a grey or black box in the connection cable.Plug the coaxial cable from outside into the RF cable.Plug the RF cable into the TV coaxial input(regular cable input). On the back of the Sega, there should be a switch for CH3 or CH 4.Put the TV on the appropriate channel. If the signal looks bad, switch the selector on the Sega and change the TV channel. If you do not have the RF cable there is a place that still sells Sega accessories, but not Sega. They must have contracted with Sega.If you need the site let me know.
Good luck!
dont know how many times ive said this but GET AN OLDER TV it saves all that time you use trying to hook it up to a new one..it doesnt even have to be that old just not a plasma or HD tv, its much MUCH easyer and saves lots of time, and mabie even money
you need to have an old-ish tv...and you need to choose one channel, any one and tune it in...you need to keep going untill you either have a black screen or the game youve inserted..
TURN YOUR MEGADRIVE ON WHILE TUNING
if youve done that and you still dont have it it might be the wire
Most old systems such as Mega Drive will come with an RF adaptor, which plugs into the back of the console and has a coaxial tip on the other end, to connect to the tv.
When you connect the coaxial end to the tv, you connect it to the round coax plug which is where you used to plug in your old cable tv hookup. It also might say Ant. or Antenna.
Turn on your megadrive and use your TVs input selector to change to either "antenna" or "tv" or "cable" input, or until you hit the input which displays your megadrive's signal.
Tip: use your TV's view options to change the input to a 4:3 or "not stretched" aspect ratio so that your old Fullscreen video games will not be stretched out wide on your new widescreen HDTV.
REMOVE THE CONTROLLER THEN PUT IT BACK. If not, OPEN IT AND MAKE SURE THE BUTTON IS NOT PRESSED IN. this also happened to me. or else GET NEW CONTROLLER.
a few things to try. You can get another known working ac adaptor and see if that springs out of the back as well so you know at that point its not an AC Adapter problem if it does.
If the AC Adapters aren't staying in place then the DC Jack on the megadrive is faulty and it would be a matter of finding a DC Jack for the megadrive 2 or find a faulty megadrive 2 where the dc jack is good.
Then if you have soldering skills, you can take the good one off of the one machine and take the bad one off of the other megadrive 2 and replace it with good dc jack. Basicially unsoldering the good one and the bad one and soldering the good one onto your megadrive machine.
Channel 3 or channel 4 for the rf switch that Sega Genesis console will only work on these two channels and it could be that the graphics chip is going bad and the ram chip is going bad then.
