Wires to magnetron
It matters! The wire from the high voltage transformer high voltage tap goes only to one side of the high voltage capacitor. No other wire is connected to that terminal of the high voltage capacitor. The other side of the high voltage capacitor connects to the anode (A) of the high voltage diode and to the "FA" terminal of the magnetron. The cathode (K) of the high voltage diode is connected to chassis ground. The pair of wires connected to the secondary (thinner) winding of the high voltage transformer are the filament wires and are connected to the "F" and "FA" terminals of the magnetron.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components. It has the overall wiring diagram and schematic. We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer. For further free help, e-mail me at http://www.microwavecontrol.com
Extra Large GE Microwave does not heat
Dear JD,
If you wish to repair the one you have, recommend you go to the SearsPartsDirect website, and type in you model number when asked.
You will see a nice blow-up of your model with parts listed. According to your information, you should either need a fuse, a capacitor, or a magnetron, or any combination of those.
The fuse might or might not be the problem.
The capacitor is the electronic "starter" to start the magneton, and the magnetron is the part that emits radio waves to cook the food.
Understand that, if you choose to"do-it-yourself", the capacitor is a very dangerous item, as it "holds a charge", so be certain to seek an electrical expert before you start the job.
Another choice for you would be to find a good craftsman who could fashion or design and make some panel inserts for the kitchen area if you must get a smaller microwave.
God bless your efforts.
Our microwave worked but would not heat. My
I would first be sure the internal cooling fan is working. If not, when the magnetron overheats, its thermostat will kill all power until it cools back down.
Also, if the RF gasket somehow fell off or was left off the new magnetron, that can make it "noisy," meaning it will emit RF noise which will disrupt the microprocessor and it will act weird and shut down when you try to cook.
For free additional help and details, feel free to e-mail me directly from my site. Remind me of your full model number and detailed symptoms.

How to test high voltage transformer
#1 Turn off and un-plug the unit for 20 minutes
#2 There is as real risk of electrocuting yourself.
#3 Short the capacitor wit a screwdriver. BE READY for an arc or pop.
#4 You need a special high voltage probe to measure the high voltage. We're talking THOUSANDS of VOLTS here DANGER -DANGER - DANGER!
#4 If you want to try, you first have to DISCONNECT the capacitor from the circuit.
#5 DON'T re connect the power. Measure the resistance of the SECONDARY of the transformer (one lead goes to the capacitor). TELL ME WHAT THE MEASUREMENT IS..
#6 The rectifier could be bad (which is connected to the Capacitor) Usually - if one of th components is bad, it'll blow one of the internal fuses.

Microwave worked but would not
Hi,
Press
the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the
microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any
program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder
appears on the display.
Perform
a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a
moment. Plug the microwave back into the wall power supply to reset
any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the
time of day if you perform a hard reset. This should help fix the problem.
