Kenmore 14.8 cu. ft. / 419 liter Chest Freezer 11531 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have a kenmore upright
I keep min two notches from the coldest setting.A great way to check where you should set yous,is ice cream.Put an open container of ice cream in the freezer, and turn the freezer to coldest. The next day try to scoop the ice cream. If the ice cream is hard the freezer is too cold.Adjust the freezer two notches ,and try the ice cream the next day.Repeat till you are happy with the hardness of the ice cream. It should be easy to scoop but not too soft.
Is it safe to plug a typical Kenmore
Safety is not an issue, the problem you may have, depending on the surge protector, is that when the compressor starts up the amps drawn from the circuit is very high which could cause the surge protector to trip, then the power would be shut off to the refrigerator,NOT A GOOD THING!
Good luck !
Can I plug my freezer into a surge protector
i know where your going and its a good thought
read your compressor, it will label the start up amp,
it may even be on the model label
it will give you the rated amps and the start up amps
this is current draw to run
as well as start up a stopped motor
depending on the age
most units use about
short of that use a 3x method
if it has the run amp x3 is startup
then read your surge protector if its rated higher than the amps needed to start the unit
then you should be fine
i will say most SP are rated at 15amps
my freezer is rated at 18amperes
My freezer sounds like its on, but it wont freez.
if the compressor is warm that is an indication to me that it is running or at least trying to run. if its running you should feel it vibrating as well as being warm. assuming the compressor is running and it's not cooling I would say you probably have a refrigerant leak and would come out cheaper to replace the unit. repalceing the compressor also is fairly expensive in exess of 300-400 dollars. Let me know if you have any other questions Peyton
Used chest freezer not cooling
chest freezer operation is among the simplest available. if the compressor is running and its not cooling there are only 2 possibilities. low or no refrigerant and or a bad compressor. so if you have the ability to return the unit I would. could luck peyton
Freezer/kenmore
the settings usually are:
off - on - superfreeze. you just want "on"
The thermostat is out on my Kenmore 14.8 cu ft freezer
I asked a local repair shop. Just pull ******* the sensor wire and it will slip out of the tube through which it runs. Run the new wire which is attached to the new thermostat thru the same tube. Prior to purchasing the thermostat, I tested with a ohm meter for continuity ( there was none) and jumped the attaching power wires. The compressor ran verifying the problem with the thermostat. Thermostat cost $47.00.
Compressor Stops on Kenmore Chest Freezer
sounds like the temp control has begun to acquire oxidation on the contacts inside of it. When you tap near it, there is just enough impulse vibration for the spring-loaded contact points to help the electricity to find a path through the oxidation. If you feel strong one day, take it apart and polish the metal contacts to remove the oxidation. Then re-assemble it and re-connect the wires. Should be good as new again. Second option...replace the control dial unit. Most contact points in electronics are designed to have a "wiping" effect when they are actuated thus removing any oxidation from the mating surfaces.

LOW / NO BATTERY ALARM
The Low/No battery alarm will activate when the
power level of the battery becomes low. The display
will alternate between "b" (Battery, See figure 8) and
the cabinet temperature, the red alarm light will
become illuminated and the control panel will beep
every five seconds. To stop the audible alarm (beep),
press the "ALARM RESET" button. The red alarm
light will remain on and the display will continue to
flash until a new battery is installed. This same alarm
will activate if there is no battery installed
