I have a 1800 honda goldwing.I replaced the fork seals on the front forks, they were leaking. Now they are not good at all.On rough roads when apling front brakes, the front wheel bounces all over the road. Also she hits very hard on little bumps.I though it was to much oil in the forks,so I redused the amount of oil, that didn't work.I reduced the amount of oil,and I replaced the oil with a lighter oil.Still the same thing. Can you help me.

I drained all the oil from the fork, replaced it with new oil, waited a while and pumped the fork up and down to get rid of air.I measured the front of the bike after I did the fork, she is about three inches higher then before.I just fixed one fork because that was the only one that was leaking.would that mather.I have no legs,I lost them in another motorcycle accident, before this bike, but I love driving my bike every day. That is my way off getting around, and my way of keeping my head strait. But right now,she is not safe to ride. It's like the front of the bike is real lite and on the smallest bump she is all over the road. Please, can anyone help me.

When I replaced the seal,I replaced all the oil too.I waited awhile and pumped the forks to get rid of air.In the book it tell you to fill the fork with oil 6 inches from the top with the fork press together.I lowered the oil to 8 inches and still the same. When riding the bike it is like the bike is very lite in front and when the bike goes over the smallest bump, the bike is all over the road.I measured the top of the fork to the floor, she is 3 to 4 inches higher them she was.I have a disability,I losted both my legs in another motorcycle accident a while back. This is my way of getting around, and I love it,but the bike is that bad and I am thinking about not riding the bike.I don't think the bike is safe to ride.I don't know what else to do.Can anyone out there help me, please.

I drained all the fork oil and replaced it with new.I filled the fork to 6 inches from the top, with the fork pressed together, which the manual tells me to do.I also measured the top of the front forks to the floor. They are 4 inches higher then they were before, but the bike feels lite in the front. When aplying the front brakes,as you go over the smallest bump, the bike is all over the road. It's like when aplying the front brakes,as the bike goes over the smallest bump, the front wheel come of the ground and when the tire hits the pavement ,the tire churps.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE FORK SEALS ON MY 1983 HONDA VT500C

cOULD LEAKING FORK SEALS CAUSE FRONT BRAKES TO FOUL? -- YES
You shuld get a manual, you must check the surface of the fork, if there are scratches, you will destroy a new seal.

1998 Honda goldwing front forks rebuild

A little bit of Trans fluid and the seals, flushing the forks and some elbow grease and a shop manual is strongly advised. This is not a simple job but doable. I made a special tool out of PVC pipe for this task also. You really need a shop manual.

Front fork air shocks leak on a 1982 honda goldwing GL 1100

You need to to replace your fork seals. if your not a fairly handy shadetree mechanic dont attempt it yourself because you have to remove the front wheel and forks to do the job.

I rebuilt the front forks on my 1985 Goldwing about a month ago. I am getting leakage out of the dust covers on both sides. Followed the instructions in my Clymer Book closely and thought it was put back...

No, the dust seals do not stop oil. The dust seals scrape off dust to help the oil seals last longer. If you scratched the tubes badly you may not be able to stop the leak. I have pock marks (rust) that after cleaning and new seals do not leak. On Goldwing's only use genuine Honda seals. Do not use Leak Proof seals, they will leak and they will only give you more Leak Proof seals to put back in. If you used that brand of seals take them out, throw them away , and put in Honda seals. You will believe after the 3rd or 4th set of Leak Proof. If you have scratched the tubes, all you can do is fine emery the rough edges and hope the seals do there job. You will see the fine polishing of the original tube, do not polish up and down the tube, polish around the tube (like honing a cylinder) and be gentle only the minimum necessary to bring back to smooth. A scratch inside the lower tube should do nothing to hurt the seal though if not smooth it might effect the slides(band in the lower tube and on the end of the chrome tube). I always rebuild the forks on the bike . The upper and lower triple clamp are the best way to hold a fork tube. The lower tube just slides off the bottom (jack under motor, wheel off).

Leak in front fork

This is the damping oil in the fork. Once it is all leaked out you will find it difficult to control the bike on bumpy roads. Get it checked ASAP. Repair is not very complicated since it requires replacement of the fork seals. I would recommend doing both forks at the same time. If one has failed the other is not far behind.

Honda dealer or repair shop, cost is about $50 per side for fork seals and usually about that much per side in labor or approx $180 or so parts and labor .
