Stored bike over winter in cold shed without draining or treating gas.battery is chargedbike turns over but no spark but backfires sometimes. I removed plugscleaned and gappeddried them with a torchchecked oil(oil was very low). Problem still there. Have removed and cleaned gas tank but have not reinstalled yetwaiting for instructions before I do so. I noticed last fall when I laid bikeafter a couple of weeks I attemted to start just to charge battery bike would not start then either so I just left it til the spring.before all this bike worked fine and started easily. I'm a 55y/o male who just bought his firstbike so am not very smart on them. I need help. Thanking you in advance Bob

If the bike sat without being used over the winter It could be bad gas. if gas sits without being used for an extended period of time it destabilizes and gums up carborators and fuel injectors, you need to add a fuel stabilizer to gas when storing for winter. To fix the problem the gas has to be drained from tank, then refil with fresh gas and appropriate amount of carborator/fuel injector cleaner/treatment. Then start the bike and let it run it should clean itself out and start running smooth. If bike did not sit unused for winter its possible they installed the wrong plugs sometimes they talk you into spending more money on platinum or split fire/gimmick plugs (always use the exact same plug that came in the bike when it was new!!!!!)
the faults you are describing do match flat or faulty batteries more than anything else.
check that the connections are good on the batteries and that the battery pack connects properly. i think it would be worth you testing the charger and the batteries to make sure they are working properly. i would not change any other parts until these have been checked.
if the bike was stored in a garage or shed during the winter it is possible that the batteries inside the battery pack may have been damaged by the cold.
if you send make and model and age of the bike i can send you far more detailed testing proceedures, but i would need the details, as battery types and voltages vary from bike to bike.
Stale fuel is normally the cause for bad starting after the winter, fuel has a very short shelf life before it goes stale, drain the fuel tank and carb float bowl, refill with freash fuel and try again
HI HAVE YOU CHECKED YOU ARE GETTING A SPARK AT THE PLUG, AFTER THE BIKE HAS BEEN STORED AWAY FOR SOME TIME AND YOU TRY TO START THE MACHINE, DUE TO A COMBINATION OF THINGS THE PLUGS CAN BECOME CONTAMINATED, HENCE FAIL TO SPARK UNDER COMPRESSION, IF THE BIKE HAS STOOD FOR 1 SUMMER I WOULD BE CORRECT IN THINKING YOU HAVE NOW DRAINED THE FUEL AND REPLACED IT WITH NEW, YOU DON,T SAY HOW MANY CYLINDERS THIS ENGINE HAS, OR IF IT IS FUEL INJECTION OR CARBS IF IT IS CARBS THEY MAY NEED TO BE REMOVED AND CLEANED, OR SIMPLY DRAINED BY THE SCREW ON THE LOWER OF THE FLOAT BOWL,
Hello shawn...Yes indeed gasoline can degrade over time. That can lead to a number of problems, ranging from hard starting, to rough running, to no starting at all...If your bike was stored for 2 years the gasoline in it has degraded beyond use. Even if the gas was treated with stabiliser before it was stored...it will still degrade in 10-12 months, if not sooner. I'm suprised your bike will even start. I suggest you drain ALL the gas out of the tank, Rinse and refill with fresh gas, drain your carbs as well...the stale gas has most likely clogged the pilot jets, draining the carb bowls will help. Go to your parts store and buy a can of "Seafoam" pour 1/2 of it in with your fresh gas..use the other 1/2 on your next tank of gas. Replace fuel filter after 1st tank, the seafoam will dislodge any debris that was in the fuel tank. It will also clean the combustion chambers and carb jets. Check your carb boots for any cracks or detoration that would cause a vacuum leak. Replace your spark plugs. If your bike is still running rough after this, then the carbs will need to be removed and cleaned and/or rejetted. Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.
you can take out the plugs - inject a little engine oil, crank the engine 5-6 times and reinstall, support the bike so the weight is off the tires, drain the gas and spray the tank with a rust preventative....
