Look on the right side of your bike down under the battery. You should see a hose with a "spring clamp" on it. Squeeze the clamp and pull the hose off of the lug on the frame to drain your oil tank. Helps if the oil is warm.

My battery is on the left side when sitting on the bike

  • Anonymous Aug 10, 2011

That's right. The battery is on the left side of the bike and the oil drain is too. Look way down low on the frame behind the rear of the engine. There should be a tee fitting with a short piece of hose that looks like it plugs onto the frame down below where the swingarm connects to the main frame. Harley seems to love moving the oil drain on Sportsters for some reason. What ever happened to the years when the oil drain plug was in the bottom of the oil tank? They also keep changing the location of the oil drain on the big dressers. They're on the bottom of the transmission but there are two drain plugs, one engine oil the other transmission lube. They keep changing the location of the two plugs and you never know which is which. Good Luck. Steve

Thank you very much!! This is driving me nuts!!!

I know the feeling man. Sometimes I think Harley engineers lay awake at night trying to dream up things to do on their bikes to confuse the owners and mechanics. Good Luck and Ride Safe. Steve

Water wizard how to change oil

There is a small Black threaded cap located on the Bottom portion of the motor. This is your drain plug. There should be 2, one is a little higher which is your Oil fill plug (usually Yellow or Red), the lower one which is on the opposite side should be your drain plug. Could also be a square head screw located at the bottom of the motor that you remove to drain the oil.

Hope this helps.

Fuel injected 2008 triumph america , loss of power and fire in central part of nearside exhaust

Instructions
    • 1 Clean the underside of the motor with soap and water to remove any dirt and oil build-up that could contaminate the motor.
    • 2 Warm your motorcycle to operating temperature by starting the motor and letting the oil warm up or by taking a short ride. The oil will expand slightly and flow better to give you a more accurate reading.
    • 3 Park the motorcycle on a level surface and turn the ignition switch to the "Off" position. Place your Triumph on its center stand, if equipped with one, to provide additional stability.
    • 4 Place your catch basin directly below the oil drain plug on the underside of the motor and remove the drain plug with the appropriately-sized socket. Allow the oil to drain until the flow has reduced to a thin trickle then replace the drain plug.
    • 5 Locate the oil sump drain plug and center your catch basin below it. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to drain until the flow is reduced to a thin trickle then replace the drain plug. Replace the drain plug. Note that this step is only required on certain models, such as the Thunderbird Sport and older "oil-in-frame" models.
    • 6 Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrench and discard the old filter.
    • 7 Fill the new oil filter with fresh oil, coating the inner lip of the filter lightly with oil to provide a stronger seal before screwing the filter onto the motor. Tighten the filter by hand until it is secure.
    • 8 Add your engine oil into the oil tank. Replace the cover and wipe away any spilled oil.
    • 9 Locate the engine sump bolt, located at the base of the cylinders and the carburetors. Remove the bolt and add half a quart of oil into the sump. Replace the bolt and wipe away any spilled oil. Note that this step is only required on older "oil-in-frame" models.

Where is located tyhe oil drain plug?

The drain plug is located on the very bottom of the motor. There is what that is called an oil pan that fits on the bottom part if the motor and there is a plug that will probably take a 13 or 15 mm wrench or socket to unscrew it. Turn the plug counter clockwise to remove it.

Where is the oil pan drain plug on a 2005 sunfire

A 2003-05 Sunfire most likely has the Ecotec 2.2 motor. The filter is a cartridge element type which is located on the forward side of the engine on the drivers side; (below and slightly left of the power steering reservoir).

The oil filter is located under (inside) a black cover about 3-4 inches around and has a large hex head nut molded on top of it, to fit a socket on it. When replacing the oil filter element, press the tipped O-ring side of the filter down into the filter cavity until it locks in place. Then place the cover on top and tighten it.

The cover will automatically lock onto the top section of the oil element as it is being tightened. The drain plug is pretty standard and on the oil pan. However, most people are accustomed to a metal oil pan, and when viewing the Ecotec motor they confuse the metal TRANSMISSION pan as the motor oil pan.

The motor oil pan is actually aluminum, and looks like a continuation of the upper motor. For that reason, you don't "see" an oil pan. Knowing this fact, the oil drain plug is now easy to locate. Look at the far passenger side of the metal transmission oil pan. Now look at the very front of that section of the transmission oil pan and follow that ''line of sight'' until you reach the bottom of the aluminum motor (''oil pan''). The oil drain plug is right there, with it's head facing towards the transmission oil pan.

The drain plug (on a 2005 Sunfire) requires a 15mm wrench/socket; and has a built in rubber seal, which should be lubricated with oil before tightening.

Were are the oil drain bolts on the 2003 honda 450

The engine oil drain is on the lower left side of the crankcase, beneath the crankcase side cover toward the front. Bolt w/copper or aluminum sealing washer. Transmission drain plug is on the lower left side also but to the rear just back of the cover. This is a larger bolt w/sealing washer. These things are tricky to find the first time because they are not located in the usual bottom locations.
