The injected SV will first of all check the temperature when first turned on . If it is cold enough then the bike will go to fast Idle which will be around the 2700 mark (not sure of this to be exact) and when reaching the next acceptable temperature it will drop down to 1800 and then finally down to its normal idle speed of around 1200 . I have found that the bike sometimes has a sticking link where the gold coloured bars that link the 2 throttle bodies get a bit sticky , spray some cleaner and a light lube on the pivot joints and free them up . When starting the bike in the cold , kneel down and peer into the triangular frame and see if the gold coloured plates move at all .

Yes, you could try running some injector cleaner, before getting further into the repair

Idel to high starting, warm to low sometimes dies

What is to high? 2000RPM, 2500RPM? Also cold idle and start up idle and many other factors vary with make, model and type of engine, smaller engines in most cases need a high start up idle.

92 chevy idles real fast on cold start up, then after run warming up runs fine

Not an uncommon issue for one to idle fast while cold but , 2000 rpms is a little higher than normal. May want to check the engine coolant temperature sensor for proper voltage and the coolant level. Also, check for small vacuum leaks around the throttle body gasket.

Engine reving on start

Hi there,

When cold, modern EFI engines are designed to idle higher, until the engine warms to operating temperature. The idle should then return to around 700rpm.

If your engine still revs at 2000rpm after warming up, then there is a problem with the fuel/air mixture, or a possible air or vacuum leak.

In this case, your vehicle's computer will have stored the appropriate fault code/s. Have your codes read by your local Renault dealer to determine which circuit is the cause.

IAC or cold start valve? NOT on a 2005.

When I start the car it stays at 2000rpm for a few moments then drops down. I'll drive for a few minutes then put it in park and it revs up and down.

idle air control valve is bad replace it. at start up choke control runs till warm up while driving throttle opening controls engine at idle ,the idle air control valve.

Car cutting out from cold start

You need a 10 mil and 8 mil spanner, carb cleaner and mabie some wd40.
Remove the big hose which goes from the throttle body to the air filter housing. Under the throttle body there is a idle control valve, unplug it, spray some wd40 on the 8mil bolts and take them off. Clean the idle control valve and housing and anywhere else which looks dirty, dry it with a lint free cloth and then put everything back on.
remove the battery negative terminal and leave it off for 30 minutes, this will reset the ecu to factory settings.

On the top of the throttle body there is a black circular rubber screw cover, take that off and there should be a plastic screw.

Connect your battery and start your engine, unscrew the idle speed control (plastic screw) so it revs at 2000rpm cold. When the temp needle reached the middle so it revs at 1000rpm hot.

This should solve the problem, if you drive around and find that you in 4th gear, with your foot off the accelerator and the idle is going up and down madly then the idle control valve is worn out and it needs replacing. Cost around £125 on ebay.

I have a high idle/overheating 1989 Toyota Carona GLXi 2.0 litre DOHC fuel injected. (New Zealand/Japanese import) I have 2 problems, and probably related. the car is overheating (heaters have stopped...

Check the hoses - especially all the little 10mm hoses that connect vacuum pipes, etc.
There is a device in the throttle body called an Idle Stabilisation Valve - they get gummed up, especially on such an old car, and with NZ's low-petroleum fuel - lots of additives in NZ gas.
They are easy enough to clean - look for a lead plugged into the throttle body near the butterfly - you can unclip it and pull it out complete - they are usually about 15cm long, by about 4cm wide.
Spray it liberally with carb cleaner and make sure it can move freely. If not, a wrecker is the best bet - they are pricey new.
Good luck.
