Don't break the brakes.

the brake switch is bad, or maladjusted.
the FSM covers how to do all that..... ever see none?
here are the links

http://www.fixkick.com/sammi-stuff/index.html

the factory service manual. not clones, the real deal.

its just a switch, and most open with pedal released, (measures 12vdc on one side and 0v other, key on.
    yours is stuck on.
adjusted wrong, or bad. it is.
the 2 wires to the switch are bare and shorted together.
ill assume all other lights were off, when testing BRAKE lamps. if not, now the time so say..... that..

I adjusted the break switch where it's not even touching anything. Break lights are still staying on.does this mean bad switch? 88 suzuki samurai.(Scott curtis) Thanks. The driving lights are on also.not head lights just the rear .the bulb with driving and break

  • Glenn Scott curtis May 10, 2015

The rear driving lights are on also.Front parking lights are unhooked.that has nothing to do with it does it?

first off, if the Head lights short to the brake lights, they both glow, with brakes applied or HL on. so that is why I asked if the head lights are on. do the brake lights fail with head lights off, and not in reverse and blinkers off.. ????
now the brake light switch, it is just a simple switch, with the switch out of car the switch is normally closed. (that turns on the brake lamps) but when installed in car and adjusted like the book shows, then the switch is OPEN (that means brake lamps are OFF) and this interrupts the current to the rear lamps. (and stop glowing)
    now back to square 1.
Do the brake lamps fail, with all other lamps off, including Reverse? yes/no...... from there we can proceed.

the brake switch is located above the brake pedal, and is adjustable.
it must not fall off the mount, or brakes stick on.
(the spring inside the switch does that ,normal closed action and lights glow)_

Do learn this procedure see volume 3 pdf
see the factory seteps, in chapter 19 (brakes) page 43, "Stop Light switch adjustment" see the lock nut. after adjusting pedal height and all steps in regards to the pedal,(height and travel)
we then do the switch last. using those steps stated.
then we lock down the jam nut on the switch. The switch is not OPEN, in the pedal up state.

here is direct link.to chapter 19.

other reasons to fail rear brake (Stop) lights
that are very common, are trailer hitch light hacks from H3LL. we always inspect the wiring back aft first ,for hacking. (bare wires, tape, and wire nuts of any kind, or other hacks to make a trailers work, done by amateurs and hackers)

if you had a volt meter all this is easy.
finding electrical faults blind is near impossible. (luck happens, inspections too)
    tell more get more.............

elaborate the word phase "not touching anything") please or use a camera, and shoot a photo of the brake switch, if set up wrong, i tell immediately. the pedal in the relaxed (up) state must push the switch button fully. this pushing opens the switch and ends the stop lamp glow,

They also carry the one for the tranny shifter.

SOURCE: Break light problem

Do you know if the brake light bulbs are working? (are the bulbs good?). (the bulbs have two parts, one for brake lights the other for running lights)
If the third brake light bulb is working the brake lights should be with good light bulbs.

Is it a 4x4 if it is you would have to seperate the tranny from transfer case and drive shaft tp change out seal.If not just drop the drive shaft and replace seal.We are talking about the rear seal at the end of the tranny.

88 suzuki Samari I replaced RR and LR tail lights housing. (New)blinkers work break lights work also.when I take foot off break pedal the break lights stay on and parking light and break light.Help

Their is switch the brake switch its on the brake pedal up high .
It sounds like its working because the lights work .
However it dose have an adjustment on most of them ware you can move the switch in or out so it olny makes contact when you touch the pedal with your foot .
This sounds like you need to back the contact out a little its a nut 1/2 turn should do it .
Its usely vary simple take a look at it even if you need to replace it it is an 88 its inexpensive and not hard to do .

Tail lights and turn signals dont work

Use the wiring schematic to follow the wires and check for any breakage or burnt wires. Repair any breakage and recheck. Check all grounds in the circuit as well; a faulty ground can cause total loss of lights.
Check the brake light switch near the break pedal. Use a voltmeter to make certain the voltage is correct with switch engaged and disengaged. Check the grommet that depresses the switch as well. Repair any issues and recheck.

Mazda 6 sport sedan break lights not working after hid light conversion

Instructions Open the rear deck lid on the Mazda 6.Carefully remove the plastic finishing cover from the license plate light housing, using a small flat-head screwdriver to release the locking tabs. Pull the cover downward and off of the deck lid, exposing the license plate bulb.
Remove the old light bulb from the license plate bulb socket by hand. Wrap your new one in a paper towel and do not touch the bulb with your bare fingers. Insert the new bulb into the light socket. Install the finishing cover onto the light housing and push it upward until it clicks and locks into place.
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to complete the LED light conversion on the opposite side of the deck lid. Test the new bulbs by turning on the headlights on the Mazda 6.

E brake light stays

Most likely just a bad sensor. If the brake isn't stuck on. This happens on other vehicles I'm sure its possible on suzuki's. I would stick some electrical tape over the light and then you have no worries. =). Or you can do alot of tearing apart to test the sensor. Thanks, Lee

88 suzuki samurai

Look on the transmission near the bell housing, this is where the speedometer cable connects to the transmission. Loosen the nut and pull the end out. Turn it manually by hand to see if it is turning and inspect it for damage. This is usually the spot where the cable breaks. You may find it loose and stuck in the transmission when you remove the cable. You can take the broken end out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
Please remember to rate this fix.
