Could be related to TORS, specifically the safety switch in the clutch/park brake assembly. If it's defective the engine won't rev. Solution: look for a TORS removal kit.

Sounds to me like you have a jetting issue. What carbs do you have...stock 26's? Also any porting or pipes and what is your elevation? what mains and pilots are in them now..

I wouldn't run your bike with no exhaust.that isn't gonna help.If you have spark and your getting fuel and it starts...You're problem is jetting. If your crank seals were bad it would run but just not good at top end. There's no need to tear the top half down and split the engine cases just because you can't get good throttle response.

When was the last time new crank bearings and seals were installed? With all the work you have done on the carb I think the problem is the crank seals. But, check the bearings. At rest, the flywheel must be rock solid > no movement up or down, left or right.

If the bearings are solid then only replace the seals. Chances are the engine can stay in the frame if only the seals are being replaced. Best part is that seals are a low cost item.

One other possibility is a partially blocked exhaust system. Check the exhaust first. Checking the exhaust doesn't cost anything. Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the motor. Excite the neighbors by a quick ride down the street with no muffler. If the problem is instantly fixed then get a new exhaust.

Please rate this solution as " FixYa " if able. Thanks!

I have a 2004 banshee at the yamaha dealer being worked on.It would not run when i took it up there they cleaned the carbs and put it back together it will start but when you rev it, it holds itself wide open and wont shut down unless you pull the plug wires.they also checked the floats in the carbs said they where ok. they think it is a vent issue with the gas tank or the fuel shut off valve.IS THAT POSSIBLE

It sat for 3 years,it was running very well.before it sat,it cranks over but dont start,i got tank cleaned and new gas in tank but still wont start, could it be my fuel pump?

Hi you need to drai. Thd old fuel out of thd carberator's look for a small screw at the very bottom of each carb. If this doesn't help the carbs need to come off and be cleaned. Also the plugs could be wet with the old fuel. Good luck.

1989 yamaha banshee no start

no you cant put them in upsidedown if they are not indexed to fit one way then you can run them either way.we need to consider a few things first spark if we have spark havve we checked the flywheel to make sure the key is not sheared and it is tight. next compression i assume since we did a top end compression is good but what about crank seals if they have never been done and are leaking transmission oil will get on ththe plugs and foul them. next fuel if gas is in the float bowls is it getting though the jets take the air filter off and spray starting fluid in the carb throat kick it if it fires for a second the carb jets need to be cleaned all that is left is air and i know you have that covered i hope this helps these 4 things are what make engines run so if you get all 4 its gonna run good luck dirt bike dan

Just replaced two pistons on my yamaha banshee now the bike wont start why?

Pull your plugs , leaving them attached to the plug wires , rest end of plug against head metal and
crank . Do you see good blue fire coming from the plug when cranking ? If yes . Good . Take a small amount of gas and pour into plug hole on head, replace plug & wire, now crank it . You may have to do this a few times . It will help fuel pressure get back to where it should be.. If your not
getting fuel at all make sure you have all flowing free and replace filters. If it is flooding on you ?
take some wd-40 and spray linkage and inside carbs, now rev throttle a few times to work in the oil.
If it is starving fuel then may be block or water in gas . you should replace gas and filters anyways.
if enough water is in the gas it is just as bad as no fire from electrical. You can do this . If you can
replace pistons and rings the rest is simple. Make sure all vacum is correct and you should be good to go. Good Luck

Will not idle. Will not start hot or cold without throttle 1/4 open. Once started will rev well but when revs drop it cannot be recovered and it just dies. Needs choke wether hot or cold to start and 1/4...

By your description, it sounds like the pilot jet is plugged in the carb. Remove carb and clean thoroghly with carb cleaner and air, making sure that all jet passages are clear. Make sure that washer and "o" ring are present on fuel mixture screw, if so equipped. Make sure float level is correct.

Banshee running wide open after a couple of revs

The problem with vents is that a vent can get plugged and lessen or completely kill the flow of fuel. They will not make an engine rev wildly. Your banshee has standard carbs. The throttle cables may be routed incorrectly, pinching or stretching the cables. Remove the air filters. Look inside the carbs. Do the slides move freely up and down when the throttle is twisted? In the diagram below note the junction tube on the throttle cabel. The cable can stick at inside the tube. Is the connector hose between the carbs in place? Also, there is a switch on top of the carb. This can go haywire also. Odd that the problem was not present before they cleaned the carbs.
